What is the best ultrawide gaming monitor for the RTX 4090?

I finally pulled the trigger on a high-end build featuring an RTX 4090, and now I’m realizing my old standard 1440p monitor just isn't going to cut it anymore. I really want to jump into the ultrawide world to fully take advantage of this card's massive power, but the sheer number of options is a bit overwhelming.

I’m looking for something that can handle high-end resolutions with a fast refresh rate—ideally 144Hz or higher—to keep things smooth. I’ve been eyeing the Alienware AW3423DWF because of those QD-OLED blacks, but then I see the massive Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 and wonder if the 32:9 super-ultrawide aspect ratio is the better way to go for total immersion. HDR performance is a huge priority for me since I play a lot of cinematic titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Alan Wake 2, and I want those lighting effects to really pop.

My budget is pretty flexible since I’ve already invested so much in the GPU, but I want to make sure I’m getting a panel that won't be a bottleneck. For those of you currently running a 4090, which ultrawide has given you the best 'wow' factor while remaining reliable? Are there any specific models that pair perfectly with Nvidia’s flagship card?

> HDR performance is a huge priority for me since I play a lot of cinematic titles like Cyberpunk 2077 Just sharing my experience: I went through this last year. Honestly, a 4090 is so powerful it basically feels wasted on standard 1440p ultrawides. I tried the LG UltraGear 45GR95QE-B 45-inch Curved OLED for a while because I wanted that massive immersion, but unfortunately the PPI was kinda disappointing for desktop use. Technically, your looking at a few tiers here: 1. **34-inch QD-OLED**: Like the Alienware mentioned before. Perfect blacks, but feels "small" for a 4090.
2. **38-inch Nano-IPS**: The LG 38GN950-B 38-inch UltraGear Nano IPS has a better 3840x1600 res, but lacks the HDR punch of an OLED.
3. **57-inch Mini-LED**: I tested the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 G95NC 57-inch Mini-LED and the HDR is insane, but the card actually struggles to push dual 4K at max settings in Alan Wake 2 without heavy DLSS. I've found there's always a trade-off between refresh rate and pixel density. It's frustrating cuz the 4090 can do so much but the panel tech is still catching up to the GPU's raw power... anyway, hope that helps! gl!

Quick question - how deep is ur desk? Tbh if ur looking for value, the MSI MAG 341CQP QD-OLED 34-inch Gaming Monitor is basically the same tech as the Alienware but cheaper.

Realistically, you should be looking at the difference between WOLED and QD-OLED tech across the board. From a market research perspective, ASUS is realy leading the pack right now with their cooling solutions. Just go with any of the high-end ASUS ROG displays; you can't go wrong with their heatsink implementation and EOTF tracking. It definately helps with HDR punchiness without too much ABL (Auto Brightness Limiter) kicking in. LG is also a great direction if you want the MLA tech for better brightness, but ASUS usually tweaks the firmware better for gaming-specific color accuracy. If you're dropping that much cash on a GPU, you want a brand that actually supports the monitor with frequent firmware updates to fix VRR flicker and stuff like that. Definately stick with the big name premium brands for that 4090, what are you waiting for?

Yep, this is the way

yo, honestly i feel u. i tried the Samsung 49-inch Odyssey OLED G9 G95SC but unfortunately had weird flickering issues so i returned it... not as good as i expected for the price. i ended up with the Alienware AW3423DWF 34-inch QD-OLED Gaming Monitor and it's basically perfect. * better value imo
* hdr looks insane in cyberpunk
* less desk space needed the g9 is cool but maybe too much? gl! 👍
