Hey everyone! I'm upgrading my setup for massive RPGs like Cyberpunk. I'm torn between a 34-inch OLED or a 49-inch super-ultrawide.

I need these specific features:

  • Deep contrast
  • High refresh rates

What is the best ultrawide gaming monitor for immersive RPGs right now?

Tbh, I would play it safe with the Dell S3422DWG 34-inch 144Hz Curved VA. Its way cheaper than OLED and you wont have to deal with burn-in issues down the line. If you really want that high-end immersion tho, the MSI MEG 342C QD-OLED 34-inch 175Hz is a great choice with insane contrast, but it definitely requires more babying. Always check the warranty for OLED coverage before buying.

If you want the best contrast for RPGs, the Alienware AW3423DWF 34-inch QD-OLED 165Hz is basically the gold standard right now. Since its a QD-OLED, you get perfect blacks and the colors are way more vibrant than a standard OLED. For something like Cyberpunk, the HDR performance is just insane. If you're set on the 49-inch super-ultrawide, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 G95SC 49-inch 240Hz is the one to beat. It gives you that massive wrap-around feel and the 0.03ms response time makes motion look incredibly smooth. One thing to consider tho is pixel density. The 34-inch usually looks a bit sharper because the pixels are packed tighter. If you play in a bright room, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 G95NA 49-inch Mini-LED might actually be better since it gets much brighter than OLED, even if the contrast isnt quite perfect.

Ive been through a few of these setups over the years and honestly, for massive RPGs like Cyberpunk, you gotta be careful with the 49-inch super-ultrawides. Dont get me wrong, the scale is insane, but a lot of games still struggle with that 32:9 aspect ratio. You often end up with weird UI stretching or black bars on the sides which totally kills the immersion you are looking for. Also, a big warning if you go the OLED route—burn-in is less of an issue these days but if you leave static HUD elements on for 100-hour RPG marathons, it can still happen. Personally, I think the 34-inch is the sweet spot. It fits your natural field of view way better without making you crane your neck back and forth to see your health bar. Just make sure whatever you pick has good heat management because these high-refresh panels get surprisingly toasty after a long session.
