Hey everyone! I finally managed to get my hands on a PS5, and now I’m realizing my old 1080p office monitor just isn’t cutting it anymore. I really want to experience those crisp visuals and smooth gameplay everyone talks about, but the sheer amount of options out there is a bit overwhelming. I'm honestly a little confused by all the technical jargon.

I’ve been doing some research, and I know I definitely need something with HDMI 2.1 to take advantage of 4K at 120Hz. I’m also curious about how important Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support is in practice—does it actually make a noticeable difference in fast-paced games like Spider-Man or Gran Turismo? I’m looking for something in the 27 to 32-inch range that has decent HDR, as I’ve heard some monitors can look a bit washed out if the peak brightness isn't high enough. My budget is around $600–$800, but I’m willing to stretch it a bit for something that’s truly future-proof.

I’ve looked at the Gigabyte M28U and the Sony Inzone M9, but I keep seeing mixed reviews about backlight bleed. For those of you who have made the jump to 4K on console, what are you currently using? Is there a specific model that you think offers the best bang for your buck right now?

In my experience, moving from 1080p to the Gigabyte M28U 28" 144Hz 4K Gaming Monitor was literally night and day. I saw mixed reviews too, but mine is great and VRR is actually a lifesaver for smooth gameplay in Spider-Man! I'm still kinda learning, but just make sure you toggle "Performance Mode" in your PS5 settings to see that 120Hz magic... it works reallyyy well tho! GL!

Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, VRR is literally a game changer for stuff like Spider-Man—it basically kills that stuttering you get when frame rates drop. But I gotta be real, I had a pretty bad experience with the Sony Inzone M9 27" 4K 144Hz Gaming Monitor. I wanted to love it since it’s "perfect for PS5," but the backlight bleed on my unit was tragic... ended up returning it cuz for that price it shouldn't happen. If you want better value, check out the LG 27GR93U-B 27-Inch UltraGear 4K UHD 144Hz Gaming Monitor. It’s usually cheaper than the Gigabyte and the colors feel way more crisp. But if you’re worried about that washed-out HDR look, you might wanna stretch ur budget for the Samsung 32-Inch Odyssey Neo G7 4K UHD 165Hz Curved Gaming Monitor. It uses Mini-LED so the blacks actually look black, not grey?? It’s a bit over $800 sometimes but keep an eye out for sales. GL!

Exactly what I was thinking
