Im finally putting together my dream 4090 build next month but now Im stuck on the power supply. My budget is around 150-180 bucks for the unit and honestly I dont want to spend more than that if I dont have to. Ive been looking at the Corsair RM850x because everyone on Reddit seems to swear by it for reliability, but then I started reading about how the newer ATX 3.0 standards are better for the 40 series cards so I dont have to mess around with those annoying adapter cables.

So I was thinking maybe the MSI MPG A850G is the way to go since it has that native 12VHPWR cable, but then I saw a few forum threads complaining about coil whine which is like my biggest pet peeve. My logic was that a higher tier PSU would be quieter but now Im just confused if I should prioritize the native cable or just stick to a brand I trust more with an adapter. Is it worth gambling on the MSI one to save the cable headache or should I just stick with a Corsair or Seasonic and deal with the adapter clutter? Im in the US and planning to order by Friday so I need to decide soon...

TL;DR: Go native, ditch the adapter. Honestly, I fought with those bulky adapters for months before switching to a native cable unit. My current setup is way cleaner and the peace of mind is just fantastic. Adapters are honestly a ticking time bomb waiting to melt if they arent seated perfectly. Dont stress the coil whine too much, you can always exchange it if you get a bad unit!
