Need a new screen for my 14 inch MBP by Friday. Read the LG GP950 is great but people say macOS scaling makes text look blurry and I'm super confused.

  • under 600 bucks
  • 144hz refresh
  • 4k resolution

What actually works without the weird scaling issues?

The scaling thing is definitely annoying but I found a setup that works perfectly for me. I have been using the Gigabyte M28U 28 inch 4K 144Hz with my MBP for months now and I am super happy with it. The text is crisp and I have had zero issues with blurring during my daily workflow, it just works well without much fussing around.

  • Use a solid USB-C to DisplayPort 1.4 cable for the best connection
  • Grab the LG 27GP95R-B 27 inch 4K 160Hz if you prefer LG panels over Gigabyte
  • Download the BetterDisplay app to manage your HiDPI settings easily I am very satisfied with the 28 inch size because the pixel density stays high enough that things dont look fuzzy. Honestly for under 600 bucks it works well and I have no complaints. Let me know if you need help with the settings once it arrives!

Late to the party but I spent way too much time obsessing over PPI. I eventually grabbed the LG 27GP95R-B 27 inch 4K 144Hz and its solid, but you gotta be careful with how macOS handles 163 PPI. Quick tip: skip the system settings and just use the BetterDisplay app to force HiDPI. It makes things way crisper than the default mess, basically saving you from buying a 1k monitor.
