Ive been doing online grocery shopping for years now, mostly just using the Walmart app to get stuff delivered to my place in Chicago, and I really thought I had the hang of the interface. I usually keep a running list and just hit checkout once a week. My buddy just moved into his first apartment across town and he is totally overwhelmed, has zero kitchen supplies, and is basically living on takeout. I spent like an hour yesterday curating the perfect starter bundle for him, you know, just basics like a decent pan, some spices, cleaning supplies, and a few pantry staples, and I managed to keep the whole cart under that 150 dollar budget I set for myself.
I was fully prepared to just pay for it and ship it directly to his address, but then I realized I dont actually have his apartment unit number and I dont want to surprise him with a random delivery without checking if he is even home to receive it. Plus, I want him to double check that I didnt miss anything crucial because I might be overestimating his cooking skills or something lol. I figured there would be a simple share cart button somewhere in the checkout flow, but I have been poking around the app for twenty minutes and I honestly cant find a way to export the list or send the actual cart contents to another account. Am I missing something super obvious? Is there like a hidden link or maybe a way to save it as a public registry or something that he can just open and adjust? Really dont want to have to take a million screenshots and send them over, that seems so clunky for 2024. Does anyone know if there is a way to just toss this over to his account so he can finalize the order?
Honestly, Walmart makes this way harder than it should be. I have tried to do this for family members before and there is no direct share cart button in the app. It is super frustrating. You aren't missing anything obvious, the feature just straight up does not exist. The app keeps carts tied to your specific account session, which is annoying when you're trying to be helpful like this. Since you dont want to send a dozen screenshots, I suggest just making a public list. If you go into the app, you can create a new list and name it something like his apartment bundle. Then just move everything from your cart over to that list. Once you do that, you can set the list to public or just share the link directly with him. He can open the link and add the items to his own cart from there. It works really well because he can remove the stuff he doesnt want or add things I probably forgot about. Once he updates it and tells you it looks good, you can just hop back on your end, grab the list, and pay for the whole thing yourself. It is a little extra work upfront but it saves a massive headache later on when he realizes he hates the brand of spice you picked or something.
