Ive been a PC gamer since the CRT days and I thought I knew exactly what I was doing when I picked up a curved 34-inch panel last month. I spent months researching panel types and response times but man, I am so frustrated right now. I finally set up my rig in my new apartment in Seattle and the ghosting on this VA panel is driving me absolutely insane. Every time I play something like Cyberpunk or even just fast-paced shooters, the trailing behind dark objects is just making me feel motion sick.

I thought the 144Hz would be smooth enough but I guess the black smear is the real killer for immersion. I spent about $500 on this thing and Im ready to just send it back and start over before my return window closes next week. Im looking for something that actually delivers on that wraparound feeling without the visual artifacts. My budget is around $900 now because Im tired of compromising. I mostly play immersive RPGs and sim racing so I need something with a decent curve, maybe 1000R? I was looking at OLED but Im paranoid about burn-in since I also use the screen for work during the day. What are the best ultrawide gaming monitors for an immersive experience that wont give me a headache every time the camera moves? I need something fast but with those deep blacks...

IPS is definitely safer for long workdays. Id suggest checking this out for better value:

  • LG 34GP83A-B 34 inch 160Hz IPS Be careful with OLED, burn-in is very risky for static office apps.

Saw this earlier and wanted to chime in. Since you're dodging OLED but hate VA smear, you should be careful with standard IPS because the contrast is usually mediocre for RPGs. You might want to consider a Mini-LED panel like the Cooler Master Tempest GP34WMR 34-inch 165Hz Mini-LED. It has 576 local dimming zones for those deep blacks. I'd suggest checking Hardware Unboxed for their response time tables so you dont get stuck with ghosting again.

^ This. Also, what kind of lighting situation are you dealing with in your new place? If you have a ton of glare from windows, that really changes the math on which panel coatings work best for you. I feel your pain on the VA smear tho, its honestly the worst once you notice it. I think I heard that some of the newer non-OLED panels are getting way better with motion, but Im not 100% sure if theyve totally fixed the black crash in those dark RPG corners you mentioned. Just a couple things to think about:

  • how much spreadsheet or design work do you do? IIRC some people find a 1000R curve really messes with their perception of straight lines.
  • check if your desk is deep enough for a heavy curve, they take up way more space than you think. Not sure if there is a perfect monitor that ticks every single box for $900 yet... you might have to prioritize either the curve or the raw speed.
