Hey everyone! I just finally snagged an RTX 4080, but I feel like my current 1080p screen is totally holding it back. I’m looking to upgrade to a high-end 1440p monitor that can really keep up with this card’s performance. I’m mostly into fast-paced shooters and some open-world RPGs, so a high refresh rate is a must—ideally 165Hz or even 240Hz. I’ve been debating between a crisp IPS panel or maybe making the jump to OLED if the price is right. My budget is around $600-$800. Any specific models you guys recommend that offer great color accuracy and low response times for this setup?

Respectfully, I'd consider another option before you go all-in on OLED. I know everyone is hyped on it right now, but honestly, I've had a different experience when it comes to pure competitive performance and long-term durability. Since you're playing fast shooters AND RPGs with static HUDs, high-end Fast IPS might actually be the better play for a 4080 setup. I'm personally super satisfied with the ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQMR. It’s technically a beast because it pushes up to 300Hz, which is a significant jump over the 240Hz OLEDs in terms of raw frame overhead. The motion clarity is legit, and you dont have to deal with the weird subpixel layout that makes text look blurry on some OLED panels. Plus, the peak brightness on a screen like the Alienware AW2723DF (which hits 280Hz) is way higher, which is huge if you play in a room with windows. Basically, OLEDs are pretty, but they can feel dim in SDR mode, and I'd be lowkey worried about burn-in during those 8-hour RPG marathons. These high-refresh IPS panels work well, they’re brighter, and they’re way more robust for mixed-use gaming. I mean, if you want that "blinding" speed and reliability, IPS is still king imo. Just something to think about! gl

Sooo i remember when i first built my rig and blew my whole budget on a monitor, i literally had zero money left to actually buy any games for like a month haha. For ur situation, i would suggest looking at high-value IPS panels instead of maxing out that $800 budget on an OLED. Honestly, you can get like 90% of that performance for way less. I think the Gigabyte M27Q X 27" 1440p 240Hz Gaming Monitor is probably the best bang for ur buck right now. Its usually around $400-$450 and the 240Hz is buttery smooth for shooters. If you want even more speed, maybe check out the ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQML1A 27" QHD 260Hz Gaming Monitor which is often on sale for like $380. I mean, both are great for RPGs too because the colors look pretty good. I guess the big lesson i learned is that saving $300-$400 by skipping OLED still gives u a killer experience, and you can spend that extra cash on a bunch of steam sales instead. anyway gl with the 4080! 👍

Oh man, congrats on snagging that 4080! Seriously, moving up from 1080p is gonna feel like a whole new world. Since ur budget is up to $800, I would 100% suggest making the jump to OLED. I've been using the LG 27GR95QE-B with my own 4080 and it's basically perfect. The 240Hz is buttery smooth for shooters, and the blacks in RPGs are actually insane. The response times are literally instant compared to my old IPS screen. If you're worried about burn-in tho, the ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQMR is a killer 300Hz IPS option that's well within ur budget. But yeah... if you can swing the OLED, just do it. It's a total game changer for HDR visuals. GL with the setup!
