Hey everyone! I finally managed to snag a PS5 recently, but I’m still playing on my old 1080p office monitor, and I feel like I'm totally missing out on the 'next-gen' experience. I’ve been doing some research, but I'm honestly getting a bit overwhelmed by all the technical jargon like HDMI 2.1, VRR support, and HDR peak brightness.
I really want a display that can actually handle 4K resolution while hitting that sweet 120Hz refresh rate for smoother gameplay in titles like Call of Duty or Spider-Man. Since I have a dedicated gaming corner with limited desk space, I’m looking for something in the 27 to 32-inch range rather than a massive TV. I’ve looked at the LG UltraGear line and some of the Samsung Odyssey models, but I’m worried about spending $600+ only to find out it doesn't fully support the PS5's specific features. My main priority is getting vibrant colors and low input lag for competitive shooters.
Has anyone here found a monitor that they absolutely love for their console setup? Specifically, which model currently offers the best balance of performance and picture quality for a budget of around $500-$700?
• ASUS TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A 28" 4K 144Hz HDR Monitor: +1 to those recs! Tbh I think it's highkey the best value pick with full HDMI 2.1 support, right?
For your situation, I would suggest checking out the Gigabyte M28U 28" 4K 144Hz Gaming Monitor or maybe the Sony INZONE M9 27" 4K HDR 600 Gaming Monitor if u can find a deal. Honestly, after looking at these for years, it's still kinda frustrating how many brands claim to be 'PS5 ready' when the actual experience is pretty mid. I've had issues with flickering and some monitors just wont trigger the HDR properly... it's so confusing!! Heres why those specs matter for ur setup: 1. HDMI 2.1 is basically EVERYTHING. If it doesnt have the full bandwidth, u wont get 4K at 120Hz. Some older "4K" screens only do 60Hz over HDMI. Basically useless for CoD or Spider-Man. 2. VRR support. The PS5 is super picky about Variable Refresh Rate. Some monitors support it on PC but not on console... idk why but its a thing. The LG 27GP950-B 27" UltraGear 4K Nano IPS is great for this but its usually over ur budget. 3. HDR brightness. Most monitors in the $500 range have "HDR400" which is basically useless tbh. It makes everything look washed out and sad. Not as good as expected. I guess the Gigabyte is ur best bet if ur sticking to that budget. It’s not perfect and the colors can be a bit weird out of the box, but it's better than most things I've tried recently. Just catching up on this thread and wanted to share that. gl!
Late to the party but honestly I feel your pain... nothing worse than spending 700 bucks and having the screen black out mid-match because of a buggy HDMI handshake. Before you buy anything tho I have a couple quick questions to help narrow it down. Are you mostly playing in a dark room or do you have a lot of glare to deal with? Also, are you looking for something that just works perfectly out of the box, or are you okay with doing firmware updates and tweaking settings to keep the reliability up? I've found some models are way more finicky than others when it comes to long-term stability.
Here's what I recommend: LG vs Samsung vs Sony. LG is fastest, Samsung looks better. Over the years, just get any LG gaming monitor and you'll be set!!
