Im so tired of the back and forth with my parents every holiday or birthday. Whenever I ask what they want, they just say they have everything, but then they get annoyed if I get them something they dont use. I really need a way to share a list where they can just click and claim things, but they are honestly terrible with tech. I need something super simple that doesnt require them to sign up for a dozen apps.

  • Needs to be free or very cheap
  • Must be usable on an older iPad
  • Must allow them to mark things as bought

Ive been looking at just making a shared Google Doc but that seems kinda messy for them, or maybe a curated Pinterest board? Or should I just suck it up and use a registry site like MyRegistry? Im worried that will just confuse them even more. My budget is pretty much zero since I just want a way to organize our lists before their anniversary in three weeks. Has anyone found something that actually works for parents who cant even figure out how to reset their own passwords...

Honestly, avoid the registry sites if they struggle with tech. They usually require accounts and have way too many buttons for someone who gets frustrated easily. Google Docs end up looking like a mess once you start adding photos, so I wouldnt bother with that either. Here is what I found works best for my own parents:

  • Shared Notes app on iPhone or iPad: Just create one note, add images, and share it. They just tap the circles to check things off.
  • Shared Album: Just toss the photos in there and have them comment or like the ones they want.
  • Email thread: Sometimes simple is best, just link them to items directly. Honestly, stick to the Notes app. It is built into the iPad already, so no new apps to download or passwords to lose.
