Which laptop accessories are must-haves for remote work?

So I finally landed this remote gig starting next week and honestly I am panicking. My company sent over a laptop and that is literally it. No mouse, no headset, nothing. I have been working from my kitchen table in Ohio for three days and my back is absolutely killing me, plus the built in speakers on this thing are so quiet I cant even hear my boss during zoom calls which is pretty mortifying.

I have zero clue what I actually need to buy versus what is just marketing fluff. I see people on social media with these crazy setups that have like three monitors and glowing keyboards and stuff but that looks way too expensive for me. I am trying to keep everything under 200 bucks if possible. I dont even know how people keep their wires from tangling everywhere, my desk looks like a giant spiderweb of charging cables right now and it is driving me insane.

Sorry if this is a super dumb question but what are the actual must-haves for someone just starting out? Like do I need a specific stand to stop my neck from hurting or should I just get a monitor? Is a wireless mouse actually better than the one that plugs in? I feel like I am missing something obvious here. I just need to be able to work eight hours without feeling like I am going to collapse by noon. Any advice on what to get first or what is a complete waste of money would be a total lifesaver because I am seriously lost...

Congrats on the new gig! Honestly, skipping the accessories is a nightmare. I tried using just the laptop for a week and my posture was ruined. Unfortunately, most stock laptop speakers are trash and using them for calls is a total pain. Dont worry about the fancy setups you see online, you just need a few solid items to save your back and sanity.

  • Logitech MX Anywhere 3S Wireless Mouse is way better than a wired one because it saves desk space and connects to multiple devices.
  • Roost Laptop Stand V3 is a lifesaver for neck pain, though it is pricey, it folds down tiny.
  • Jabra Evolve2 30 Wired Headset for clear audio so you arent struggling to hear your boss. Keep it simple. You definitely need a separate mouse and a stand to bring the screen to eye level. Everything else is mostly just fluff.

Just catching up here, honestly ditch the kitchen table setup asap. If you need to fix your back and cable clutter, consider these:

  • Logitech K380 Bluetooth Keyboard for a compact wireless feel.
  • Anker 6-in-1 USB-C Hub to fix those cable messes.
  • Amazon Basics Adjustable Laptop Stand to save your neck without spending a fortune. Make sure to grab a decent hub so everything plugs into one spot. Dont waste money on fancy RGB stuff yet.
