So I'm totally lost here and the holidays are basically tomorrow and my family is driving me crazy asking what the kids want. I tried writing it down on a piece of paper but my toddler literally ate it, or drew on it, i dont even know but it's gone now and i need something online so i dont lose it again.
I was thinking maybe there's a website where I can just put links? My logic was that if I can just copy the link from Amazon or Target then everyone can just click it but I have no idea if that exists for free. I dont want to pay for a subscription just to make a list for one month out of the year. My budget for gifts is already tight enough as it is. I looked at Google Docs but it looks so messy and I cant figure out how to make it look nice or show if someone already bought the thing.
Is there like a specific app or site that handles this? Sorry if this is a super basic thing everyone knows about but I am just so overwhelmed right now and my brain is fried from work. I need to get this sent to my mother in law by tonight or shes just gonna buy them more socks they dont need. Does anyone know a way to do this easily without being a tech genius? I just need a simple way to share a list that updates when someone picks something...
I have been organizing these lists for a decade and unfortunately, most free tools have become pretty bloated with ads or confusing interfaces lately. The shared spreadsheets I used to recommend just aren't as good as expected when you need to track who bought what. It usually ends up being a mess of accidental duplicates. Here are the only ones I still find functional for a busy parent:
To add to the point above: watch for hidden subscription fees after trial periods, tbh.
Just saw this while grabbing coffee. Like someone mentioned, those shared spreadsheets are a total nightmare once you get more than three people involved... honestly, I spent way too many hours trying to build a custom database for this years ago before realizing it just wasnt worth the effort. In my experience, you want something with a browser extension so you can just click a button on any site and have it pull the metadata automatically. I ended up sticking with Giftster for my family. Its free, handles the 'claimed' status perfectly so no double gifts, and you can add items from any store by just pasting the URL. The tech behind it is simple but the sync is solid. Plus, you can set up a 'secret' group so kids dont see what's being bought. TL;DR: Go with a dedicated registry tool like this site instead of docs. It saves your sanity and prevents duplicate socks.
