Finally building my dream sim racing rig and I need a monitor that really sells the immersion. Im obsessed with iRacing and MSFS so I need something wide, like super wide. I saw the Samsung Odyssey G9 all over the place but then read some horror stories about flickering issues and firmware updates, and the Alienware QD-OLED looks gorgeous but Im worried about burn-in since I leave my HUD on all the time. My budget is around 1200 bucks and I want to have this set up by next month before my vacation starts. Is the OLED really worth the extra cash or should I stick to a VA panel for sim stuff?

TL;DR: Honestly, if you are worried about burn-in and want that massive immersion, skip the G9 and the OLED headache. Just grab a solid IPS or VA ultrawide and call it a day. Stumbled upon this thread today and yeah, I get where you are coming from. I spent a fortune on the Samsung Odyssey G9 49-inch DQHD 240Hz a while back and honestly, it was pretty disappointing. The firmware updates were a nightmare and I had flickering issues that basically ruined my nights in iRacing. It looked great when it worked, sure, but it was just too much maintenance for a gaming rig. Regarding the OLED stuff, I really wouldnt risk it if your HUD is stuck in the same spot for hours. I know people say it is fine, but personally, I had issues with ghosting and image retention on my previous screens. It is just not worth the stress if you are grinding long sessions. If you want a safe bet that still looks crisp, look into the LG 38GN950-B 38-inch Nano IPS 144Hz. The colors are vibrant enough for flight sims and you wont have to panic every time you leave your static HUD on the screen. It is not as wide as the 49-inch monstrosities, but the resolution is way easier to run, which matters for smooth frame rates in MSFS anyway. Just my two cents from someone who learned the hard way.

Honestly, skip the G9 headache! I moved from a VA panel to the Alienware AW3423DWF 34-inch QD-OLED and it is night and day. The colors are just insane for sim racing.

  • No ghosting in fast turns
  • True blacks make night races immersive
  • Just hide your HUD during long stints to save the panel You really wont regret the OLED upgrade, it makes everything look so much more realistic!
