im honestly so stressed out right now. i finally saved up some money from my summer job—im looking to spend maybe $350 or $400 tops—and built my first pc last week but now i realize i have nothing to actually look at. my old monitor is like ten years old and barely works and honestly the resolution is so blurry it gives me a headache after twenty minutes. i keep seeing people talk about 1440p being the sweet spot but i have no clue what that even means really, just that its better than what i have.
i feel so dumb asking this because everyone here probably knows way more than me, but do i just pick anything that says 1440p? i went to a store yesterday and there were just rows and rows of screens with different numbers and confusing labels like ips or va or refresh rates. i just want to play games like cyberpunk and maybe some valorant without my eyes feeling like they are gonna fall out of my head. ive been looking at amazon for like three days and im literally just scrolling and feeling more confused every hour because some have curved screens and some are flat and i have no idea if that matters for my desk setup which is actually kinda small.
im living in ohio and really need to get something ordered by the end of the week so i can actually use my new pc during my time off. does anyone have a recommendation for a specific monitor that wont break the bank? is there anything i should definitely avoid or look for when buying one? i just dont want to waste my money on something that ends up being junk or wrong for gaming...
^ This. Also, ghosting is honestly the worst for fast games like Valorant, so definitely stick with an IPS panel for those crisp colors and quick response times. Since you're dealing with a smaller desk, going with a flat screen is definitely the move, curves can be super distracting if you're sitting super close! You should check out these two, they are absolute beasts for the price:
@Reply #2 - good point! Honestly, save yourself the headache and grab the LG 27GP83B-B 27-inch 144Hz 1ms IPS. I've been using one for a while and it's perfect for both Valorant and Cyberpunk. The colors are way better than anything else in that price range. Since your desk is small, the flat screen is definitely the right move. Just keep it simple and dont overthink the specs too much!
Dont sweat it, we all started somewhere. 1440p is basically just a resolution that looks way sharper than old 1080p screens, which is why your eyes are hurting right now. Honestly, stay away from cheap VA panels, I had issues with ghosting where everything looked like a blurry mess in fast games like Valorant. You definitely want an IPS panel for better colors and no smeary motion. I personally use the LG 27GP850-B 27 inch 165Hz QHD Nano IPS and its been solid for Cyberpunk. Its flat, which is perfect for your small desk since curves take up way more room than you expect. Just watch out for weird off-brand names on Amazon, they usually look okay on paper but are total junk after a month.
