im looking to finally jump from 1080p up to 1440p because my current monitor has some weird ghosting issues and honestly its just time for an upgrade. i play a lot of fast paced stuff like valorant and apex so motion clarity is really the most important thing for me... i dont care as much about crazy hdr or speakers or any of that extra stuff just need it to be smooth.
im currently stuck between a few choices and my budget is strictly under 300 bucks since im a college student and dont have a ton of cash to burn right now.
id really like to pull the trigger by this friday because i have a long weekend coming up. i keep seeing people say the gigabyte is the king of budget monitors but then i see others complaining about backlight bleed and it makes me nervous to spend the money. if anyone has used these for actual competitive gaming and not just casual stuff let me know which one feels snappier. maybe there is a better option i missed?
Late to the thread but regarding what #1 said about the Gigabyte, its fine but im much more satisfied with the ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQ3A 27 inch 1440p 180Hz. I tested both last month and the ASUS definitely had better motion clarity for my flick shots in Valorant. Super smooth stuff. Quick tip: keep your overdrive on Level 3 to minimize ghosting without adding overshoot. Tbh it works well for me.
Like someone mentioned, the ASUS is solid, but in my experience these are better deals if you dont wanna overspend:
ive been using the Gigabyte M27Q 27 inch 1440p 170Hz IPS for a while and honestly im super satisfied with how it handles fast motion in Apex. you are right about the v2 fixing the subpixel layout, so text clarity is actually decent now which is nice if you also use it for schoolwork. for competitive stuff tho, motion blur is the real killer and the response times on the M27Q are actually really solid for the price point. if you can find a deal, the LG 27GP83B-B 27 inch Ultragear QHD 165Hz is amazing because of the Nano IPS panel. the response times are crazy fast, basically no ghosting at all. but tbh, if you want to save some cash and stay well under that 300 dollar limit, definitely check out the HP Omen 27q 27 inch 1440p 165Hz IPS. it often goes on sale for around 210-230 bucks and it uses a really solid panel. i helped my roommate set one up recently and we were both happy with the motion clarity in Valorant. the KTC is tempting because of the price tag, but warranty support can be a nightmare if you get a dead pixel or something. id stick with Gigabyte or HP for the peace of mind. the M27Q also has that built-in KVM switch which is a nice bonus if you ever hook up a laptop for classes. since youre a student, maybe check if you can get a student discount through certain retailers, helps shave off another 10 or 20 bucks usually... good luck with the long weekend grind!
