I finally pulled the trigger on an RTX 4090 for my new build and I am freaking out with excitement to get this thing running by next weekend!! But I am totally stuck on the monitor part and its driving me crazy. I spent all night looking at reviews and I keep seeing the Alienware AW3423DWF mentioned everywhere because of the colors but then some people are saying the new 4K 240Hz OLEDs like the MSI or ASUS ones are the real king now since they have way better clarity. I dont really get if ultrawide is actually better for immersion or if I should just go for native 4K since I finally have the power to actually drive it at high frames.

Heres what I am looking for:

  • Budget: Trying to stay under $1300 but I could go to $1500 if its a massive jump in quality
  • Size: 32 inch is probably the sweet spot but I might consider 27 if the tech is better
  • Use case: Mainly single player RPGs like Cyberpunk and Starfield but I do some light video editing on the side
  • Location: Im in the US and have a Microcenter nearby so I can go grab something today if I decide

Is the jump to 4K OLED worth the extra cash over the older ultrawides or am I just paying for hype? I really want those deep blacks but I'm scared of burn in if I leave it on too long. What are you guys actually using with your 4090s right now?

Building on the earlier suggestion, you might want to consider how much time you actually spend on that video editing compared to gaming. Before pulling the trigger at Microcenter, what kind of lighting do you have in your room? Glossy OLEDs look incredible but they turn into mirrors if you have a window behind you. If you decide on 4K, I would suggest looking at the MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED 32 inch 4K 240Hz instead of the Asus. Its basically the same panel tech but usually cheaper, which is way more practical for your budget. Another choice is the LG UltraGear 32GS95UE-B 32 inch 4K 240Hz/FHD 480Hz. It has a matte coating which handles reflections better and that dual-mode feature is nice to have, tho native 4K is the move for Cyberpunk. Just be careful with static UI elements during editing... thats where the burn in risk actually lives.

Honestly, you have the most powerful GPU on the planet, so running it at 1440p ultrawide feels like a waste of raw power. I recently got the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM 32 inch 4K 240Hz and the jump in pixel density is incredible for RPGs like Cyberpunk. The 4K resolution at 32 inches provides much better text clarity for your video editing too. If you want to maximize your budget, the MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED 32 inch 4K 240Hz uses the exact same fantastic panel for a bit less money. Quick tip: Toggle the Windows taskbar to auto-hide and use a black wallpaper. These simple steps combined with the built-in pixel shift tech on these newer monitors makes burn-in a non-issue for most gamers now. Go to Microcenter and grab a 32 inch 4K OLED because the clarity is way better than the old ultrawides and you wont regret the switch!

Lol I was literally about to post the same thing. Glad someone else brought it up.
