Ive been building my own rigs since the GTX 900 series days so I usually know what Im doing but man this current 1440p market is a total mess right now. Im rocking an old 3070 right now and its just falling off a cliff with these newer titles like Cyberpunk or even Wukong lately. Ive got a 165Hz monitor and Im barely hitting 70fps on medium settings which is just killing me. My logic was to just grab a 4070 Super and call it a day because of the power efficiency and DLSS 3 frame gen but then I started looking at the VRAM requirements and now Im second guessing everything. Is 12GB really gonna hold up for the next 3 years?

So I was thinking maybe the 7900 GRE is the play for the extra memory buffer but then I lose out on the ray reconstruction stuff which I actually use. Ive got about $750 to spend and I really need to get this ordered by Friday before my vacation starts so I can actually play something for once. Is the 4070 Ti Super worth the extra stretch for that 16GB? Or am I just overthinking the whole VRAM thing for 1440p high refresh? It feels like every card in this price bracket has some stupid compromise and Im stuck in analysis paralysis...

Unfortunately, 12GB isnt cutting it lately.

  • Buy Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE 16GB to save some cash.
  • The ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB Trinity is better if you can stretch.

Unfortunately, it is pretty disappointing that spending $750 still leaves you in this weird limbo between not enough VRAM and overspending. If you really value Ray Reconstruction, then going AMD is basically a non-starter, which sucks because the value there is way better. Quick question tho, what kind of PSU are you rocking? Some of these triple-fan cards draw a lot more than your old 3070 and I would hate for you to have power trips mid-game. If you can squeeze an extra fifty bucks, the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB GDDR6X is the only thing that actually makes sense for the long haul at 1440p. The MSI Ventus 3X GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB OC is also a solid shout if you find a deal before Friday. Anything with 12GB is just gonna have you in the same spot in two years, which is just frustrating for that much money... honestly the market is just trash right now.

Regarding what #1 said about 12GB, I totally agree! My last build was amazing until textures started swapping to system RAM. Be careful, that stuttering is a total nightmare to fix!
