So I'm trying to build my first ever gaming PC and honestly I am so lost with all the graphics card numbers. Everything online is super confusing and everyone says different things. I just bought a 1440p monitor because it was on sale, but now I realize I need a GPU that can actually run games at that resolution without melting.
Here is what I am dealing with:
- Budget: I really want to keep the GPU under $350 if possible, absolute max is $400.
- Games: I want to play stuff like Baldurs Gate 3 and maybe some Forza. I dont need crazy high settings, just want it to look pretty and run smooth at 60fps.
- Timeline: Hoping to buy something in the next week or two.
- Location: I live in the US and have a Microcenter nearby if that helps.
Sorry if this is a really basic question but is there a specific card I should look for? I keep seeing names like RX 6700 XT or RTX 4060 and it is just alphabet soup to me. I have no idea which one is actually better for someone who just wants to plug it in and play...

Go with AMD for 1440p. That RTX 4060 only has 8GB VRAM which struggles at higher resolutions.
- AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT 12GB: Best raw performance. 12GB VRAM is perfect for BG3, and it fits your budget.
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB: Better ray tracing and DLSS, but the limited VRAM hurts at 1440p. Check Microcenter for open-box deals on the 6750 XT or a AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT 12GB.

Unfortunately, the newer budget cards like the 4060 series have been pretty disappointing with their low VRAM, and i've seen too many people having crash issues at 1440p. If you want something reliable that wont give you headaches, try to find a deal on a XFX Speedster SWFT309 Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB. It runs cooler and has actual breathing room for games like BG3, plus you can check for open-box deals to save even more.
