Should we use a shared document to track family gift ideas?

My family is huge and Christmas is already stressing me out. I read online that people suggest using Google Sheets, but others say it just causes more drama when people start editing each other's stuff. I need something simple because my parents are not tech savvy at all.

  • Needs to be mobile friendly
  • Must allow anonymous suggestions if possible
  • Absolutely free

We really just need to stop buying the same socks for my brother every single year. Is there a better app for this or should I just stick to a shared note? Has anyone actually managed to get a stubborn family to use a spreadsheet without a total meltdown?

Ugh, spreadsheets are a total nightmare. I tried that last year and my aunt somehow deleted the entire tab twice. Honestly, it was a mess. Are you looking for something where people can claim gifts so no one overspends?

  • Try a handy holiday tool for secret santa setups
  • Look into apps that lock once a gift is claimed It is just safer for the bank account tbh. How many people are actually involved in this?

Honestly, spreadsheets usually end up being a disaster with older family members. They just end up deleting formulas or changing cells by accident. Keeping it simple is better if you want everyone to actually participate without a technical meltdown.

  • Use a dedicated platform for wishlists instead of a general document.
  • Look for apps that let people reserve items so you dont get duplicates.
  • Pick something with a really basic interface for the non-tech folks. Btw, I use Share Product Wishlist for my secret santa groups so everyone gets exactly what they need. Its way less clunky than a shared sheet and much harder to mess up. Just pick a reputable platform and stick to it so nobody gets confused.
