I am so pumped for Christmas this year and actually started my shopping early for once because my family in Ohio is huge and I have a $600 budget just for the kids. I spent all weekend making these massive lists on Elfster and a shared Google Doc but now I am stuck. I read online that you can use AnyList to pull everything in but then someone else said that only works for groceries and wont update if someone else buys it off the original site. I also looked at the Amazon assistant thing but I have stuff from Etsy and smaller shops too. I just want to be able to see everything on my phone while Im at Target or whatever without flipping between ten tabs... how do you guys actually get these things to talk to each other so I dont buy the same lego set twice?

This totally reminds me of my sisters budget mess last year.

  • She used my favorite gift list extension but her phone battery died mid-shop.
  • She had no backup list and totally lost track of costs.
  • She ended up buying the same Barbie dream house twice. It was a huge waste of money and she was so stressed out. Tech is great but has limits when youre in the store...

Just adding my two cents... be careful with auto-syncing, it lags. I once double-bought a bike... total nightmare. Maybe try Giftster so you dont overspend.

  • mark things manually
  • check before paying

I've tried pretty much every method out there over the years. My old system was a massive spreadsheet for my nieces and nephews, and man, it was a total nightmare trying to cross-reference while standing in a busy aisle. Honestly, AnyList is great for milk and eggs, but it's not really built for the claimed status you need for gifts. In my experience, the only way to keep your sanity is using a universal registry app. I usually stick with a handy holiday tool to pull everything into one place. It lets you add stuff from Etsy, Amazon, or random local shops using a browser button. It keeps everything on your phone and updates in real-time so you dont buy duplicates. It saved me from getting two identical Lego sets last year, which was a total lifesaver. Way easier than flipping through tabs while people are bumping into your cart, tbh.
