How do you share holiday gift ideas with extended family?

Honestly I am just so stressed out already and it is not even December yet. Every year the extended family gift exchange becomes this giant headache where everyone keeps texting me individually asking what the kids want and I end up repeating myself like a broken record. I tried making a shared spreadsheet last year—my logic was that everyone could see what was already bought—but it was a total disaster because half the family couldn't figure out how to edit the cells on their phones and my aunt ended up buying the same Lego set my brother already got. It is so frustrating because we live in a tiny place here in Chicago and I really do not have the space for duplicates or huge plastic junk we do not need. I have looked at those registry websites but they feel kinda gimme gifts and I do not want to seem rude or demanding but I am just so tired of the chaos. I was thinking maybe an app? But then I worry about my parents not wanting to download something new or forget their passwords. I am just spiraling trying to figure out a way to coordinate like 15 people without losing my mind or hurting someone's feelings. How do you guys actually handle this without it becoming a second full-time job...

I love it! I have organized these for years. To help you:

  • Do they use group chats?
  • Is a mobile-friendly site okay? Let's figure it out!

I gave up on those years ago and honestly havent looked back. You need something way more user-friendly. I've been using Christmas Wishlist Creator for my kids' lists and it works well because nobody has to create an account to view or mark items as bought. That's usually the biggest hurdle for my parents... they wont deal with passwords. It’s been a life saver for the tiny apartment living too. You just put the specific items you want, and once someone claims it, it disappears for everyone else. No duplicates. No plastic junk you didnt ask for. It definitely keeps the chaos to a minimum without making you feel like a drill sergeant.
