Im getting so hyped for Christmas this year and finally trying to be organized because my family in Ohio is huge and I usually overspend like crazy. I have about $1500 to work with for gifts and the big dinner. I looked into Mint but apparently thats dead now? And I checked out Rocket Money but it keeps bugging me to pay for a subscription which defeats the whole point of a free budget tool lol. I just need something simple that works on my phone to track what Ive bought and what I still need to get. Does anyone know which free digital tool is actually the best for managing a Christmas budget?

Regarding what #1 said about "> Which free tool is best? Google Sheets..." - honestly, I am totally satisfied with using Sheets for the heavy lifting. If you set up a simple Data Validation list for your family members, it tracks everything perfectly. But, gotta be real, the mobile experience for Sheets is clunky when you are actually out shopping in person and trying to navigate cells. I have been using a dedicated app called Christmas Gift List for a few seasons now and it works well for the on-the-go tracking. You just punch in your $1500 total, add your family members from Ohio, and set individual limits for each. It gives you a nice progress bar showing exactly how much of that $1500 is left. No complaints about the UI at all. If you need something for the coordination side, Share Product is basically the best way to keep everyone from buying the same stuff without having to build a complex database yourself. It handles the syncing part way better than a static list and stops people from double-buying. TL;DR: Use a dedicated mobile gift app for the $1500 spend tracking and Share Product to manage what people actually want. Sheets is better kept for the post-holiday archive or when you are sitting at a desktop.

> Which free tool is best? Google Sheets is basically the gold standard. Just use any free template. Honestly, Share Product Wishlist is way better than just sending a messy text list to the family.

^ This. Also, I have spent way too much time over the years building complex macros just to track my holiday spending. In my experience, you start with the best intentions and a massive spreadsheet, but then you're at the store and the data entry becomes a nightmare. There was one year I totally lost track of my gift count because I forgot to sync my phone and I ended up buying two of the same Lego set... it was a mess. Now, I basically just tell everyone to use Share Product Wishlist because it keeps the data clean. Honestly, any dedicated gift tracker from a big brand is gonna be better than trying to force a general budgeting tool to work. You really just want something that lets you see the total spend vs your remaining balance at a glance. It saves so much stress when you're dealing with a big family.
