okay so i have no idea what im doing and i feel kinda stupid for asking this but i really need to know if me and my friend can both be logged into my walmart account at the same time to build an order. we are going on a camping trip this weekend and i basically waited until the last minute to get everything together and now im panicking. we have like a $300 budget for all the food and gear and we need to get the order in tonight so we can pick it up tomorrow morning at the walmart here in marion. i am so stressed because i volunteered to handle the food and now its all falling apart.

here is what i need to make sure of:

  • can we both add things to the cart from different phones at the exact same time
  • will the cart update so we dont buy the same thing twice or miss stuff
  • does the website glitch out if two people are logged into one account
  • is there a better way to do a group order that i dont know about

i just dont want to spend an hour adding stuff and then have his phone overwrite mine or something because we are in a huge rush and i dont have time to redo it. if anyone knows how the walmart app handles this please let me know soon. i seriously have zero clue how this stuff works sometimes...

Regarding what #2 said about being careful, I've always been satisfied with how their backend handles concurrent sessions. The state-sync was super solid when I did a $500 gear haul recently. Each 'add' action hits their server database immediately, so it doesn't just live on your phone. Real quick tho, are you guys both using the app? It handles the API calls better than the mobile browser. If you're worried about glitches, this simple cart sharer is great for organizing stuff first.

I do this every single summer for our annual lake trip and it is seriously amazing! Me and my bestie both log into my app and start grabbing things like the $15 Ozark Trail chairs...

  • Yes, the cart updates live when you refresh
  • It handles two people perfectly fine without glitching
  • Just watch the total together so you dont go over budget Go for it, it is gonna make shopping way faster!

Saw this late but be careful. I basically use Easy Cart Share for group trips to avoid missing stuff like $5 water jugs:

  • sync delays
  • login glitches Its way safer.

I think the system uses server-side cart state linked to the account ID. IIRC it handles concurrent API calls okay, but honestly havent tested the exact latency between two devices lately.

  • Concurrency: The backend queues the actions, tho there might be a sync delay in the UI.
  • Session Persistence: Logging in on multiple phones might trigger a security flag, but usually the token stays active.
  • State Sync: You probably gotta manually refresh the cart to see what the other person added in real-time. Not 100% sure if the mobile site and app sync at the same speed. Stick to the app for better session persistence. Just make sure only one of you hits that final checkout button so you dont end up with double auth holds or conflicting order states.

Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.

ugh i am literally going through the same thing right now and it is so stressful. im trying to coordinate a diy van build with my cousin and we keep bumping into each other on these retail sites. regarding what #2 said about "Saw this late but be careful. I basically use Easy Cart Share...", ive had some really bad experiences with those live updates too. unfortunately it never seems to work as smoothly as you expect it to. i am not really sure how walmart specifically handles it but i think:

  • iirc the session might timeout if you both keep adding things too fast
  • someone told me that only one person can actually see the updated prices
  • not sure but the app might kick one of you out if it detects two different ip addresses its honestly been a letdown trying to collaborate like this. i actually started using this wishlist site to just keep a master list of our computer parts and camping gear because the built-in carts are just too glitchy for my nerves. good luck with the marion trip tho... camping is supposed to be relaxing but the prep is always a nightmare lol.
