So I am super new to adulting and honestly kinda broke right now. My roommates and I just moved into our first apartment in Ohio and our grocery bill is already stressing me out way more than I thought it would. We are trying to keep it under 300 bucks a month for food and stuff, which I have no idea if that is even realistic? We have been doing all our shopping at the Walmart down the street because it is close but I feel like I am doing it totally wrong. I see people with these giant binders or staring at their phones and I just walk in, grab stuff, and panic when I see the total at the register. Is there some secret way to use the app or something? I keep hearing about price matching or weird colored stickers on the shelves but I have no clue what any of that means. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am legit lost. How do you guys actually save money there without spending hours planning?

TL;DR: Stop overpaying. Unfortunately, the app is clunky. Just switch to Great Value store brands for everything, honestly. It cuts costs instantly without needing those annoying coupon binders at all.

Regarding what #1 said about the app being clunky, honestly, they are right. I tried using the official Walmart app for a few months and it was just a headache honestly. The inventory numbers were never accurate and it crashed constantly. If you want to save money without the headache, check out PriceDropCatch. It makes watching for sales way easier without needing a binder or some complex spreadsheet. Just look for those yellow clearance stickers tucked away on the bottom shelves because that is where the real deals are. Also, never go shopping while you are actually hungry, that is how I blew my budget every single time in college. It is super easy to just toss extra stuff in the cart when your stomach is growling. Keep your lists simple and stick to them.
