So I finally saved up enough cash for an RTX 4090 after working extra shifts for 6 months and I'm buying the parts next week here in California. But I'm honestly so confused about the power supply thing. I keep reading horror stories about cables melting or the computer just turning off and it's making me kinda scared to even put it together.

Is there like a specific one that's the best for this card? I see stuff like 850 watts and 1200 watts and it's all just numbers to me. Sorry if this is a total noob question but I really dont want to blow up my expensive new card... what should I get?

I've built many high end rigs over the years and i can tell you that the 4090 power situation isnt as scary as the internet makes it seem. In my experience, the biggest mistake people make is using the messy adapters that come in the box. You should definitely look for an ATX 3.0 certified unit because it includes a native 12VHPWR cable that plugs directly into your card. For real world usage, 1000 watts is the perfect balance between price and performance. I usually recommend the Corsair RM1000e 1000W 80 Plus Gold ATX 3.0 for most builds because it handles power spikes perfectly without being overpriced. Just ensure that cable is pushed in all the way until it clicks... that is the simplest way to avoid any melting issues. You really dont need to overthink the wattage beyond that 1000W mark tho.
