I’m currently planning a high-end studio build where total silence is a non-negotiable requirement. I've already swapped my CPU cooler for a massive passive heatsink and moved to an open-air chassis, but my current power supply’s fan curve is driving me crazy with its clicking and humming. I’m looking for a truly fanless PSU—not just a hybrid one—that can handle around 600-700W without any coil whine issues. I’ve been looking at the Seasonic Prime Fanless series, but are there other reliable options that stay cool under load? Since there’s no airflow, I’m a bit worried about heat soak over long sessions. What is the most reliable fanless PSU you’ve used that stays completely dead silent?
sooo I totally feel u on the fan noise thing... it's literally the worst when you're trying to mix audio and hear that clicking sound. basically fanless PSUs rely on convection, so heat soak is actually a real concern in an open-air chassis if there's zero movement, right? in my experience, the key is finding something with high efficiency so it generates less waste heat to begin with.
if you're trying to save some cash but still want that silence, here's what I recommend:
1. Seasonic Prime Fanless PX-500 500W 80+ Platinum - honestly this is the gold standard. I know u mentioned 600-700W, but iirc most studio builds dont actually pull that much. it's usually around $160-180 and is dead silent.
2. SilverStone Nightjar Series NJ600 600W 80+ Titanium - I've used this one over the years and it's actually incredible. since it's Titanium rated, it runs way cooler than Gold units. usually goes for about $200.
3. SilverStone Nightjar NJ700 700W 80+ Titanium - if u highkey need the extra headroom, this is basically the best you can get before things get crazy expensive.
tbh, i think u can find some decent deals on the 600W Nightjar if u shop around. gl! 👍
Sooo just catching up on this thread! honestly, I've tried a few setups for my studio and for your wattage range, I'd suggest looking at the SilverStone Nightjar NJ700 80 PLUS Titanium 700W Fanless PSU vs the be quiet! Dark Power 13 750W 80 PLUS Titanium. The Nightjar is *actually* fanless and totally silent, but the be quiet! Dark Power 13 is basically inaudible even tho it has a fan. If you're dead set on zero moving parts, the Nightjar is king, but the be quiet! handles heat soak way better during long mixing sessions. i mean, its a tough choice but id go Nightjar for pure silence!!
TL;DR from this thread: we're looking at convection-based units like those mentioned by the others, but honestly, heat soak is the real killer for your wallet and components. In my experience, if you're on a budget, you could try an over-spec'd high-efficiency unit (Titanium rated) where the fan literally never spins up anyway. Not 100% sure but I think some people even undervolt to keep temps low... basically saves you the fanless premium price tag!! peace

Same setup here, love it
Ok so I saw this earlier but just now responding. I've been running a totally silent rig for about three years now and honestly, I was super nervous about the heat soak thing too. I ended up going with the Cooler Master V700 Fanless Edge Platinum because of those dedicated heatpipes it uses. Basically, what I've learned over the long term is that how you actually mount the unit is like, the most important part for it to stay reliable. I found out that if you dont have the mesh facing exactly the right way for the air to rise out, it starts to get really toasty after a few hours of work. I'm still learning the tech side of it but letting the heat escape naturally is the only way I've found to keep it dead silent without the parts wearing down. Tbh I havent heard any coil whine at all even after huge 10-hour sessions. It has worked out really well tho.
