I'm finally upgrading to an RTX 4080 and want to ensure my power supply is up to the task. I’m looking for a reliable 850W unit, preferably with native ATX 3.0 support to avoid using messy adapters. Silence and high efficiency are my top priorities. Which 850W PSU offers the best performance and cable management for this card?
> best 850W PSU for an RTX 4080? Corsair RM850e (2023) 850W vs MSI MPG A850G PCIE5 850W. Corsair is cheaper and quiet. Best value choice for ur build, love it!!
Just found this thread! I went through this last year and was *sooo* paranoid about safety and melting cables. I basically settled on the be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 850W ATX 3.0 since it’s only like $110. It’s super reliable and silent, which gives me peace of mind for ur 4080 without overspending. Honestly a solid budget-safe pick... gl!
Late to the party but I've been running my 4080 rig for nearly a year now and realy love it. I'm still kinda new to this but here are two tips from my experience: - Check out the FSP Hydro Ti Pro 850W. It’s been totaly silent for me and it's Titanium rated so it's super efficient, which is good for the power bill I think?
- Make sure you have plenty of room in your case for that native cable because it's a bit stiffer than older ones, which wierdly made my cable management a bit tricky at first. Are you planning to mount the card vertically or just the normal way?
Same here!
Solid advice 👍
yo, saw this earlier and wanted to jump in cuz I literally spent two weeks obsessing over this exact thing when I snagged my 4080 last year. Honestly, the whole ATX 3.0 transition was such a headache to research at first. I started out looking at the Corsair RM850e (2023) 850W like the first guy mentioned, and it's definitely solid, but I ended up going down a rabbit hole of technical specs regarding fan noise and capacitor quality. My journey led me to the MSI MPG A850G PCIE5 850W because it had that native 12VHPWR cable which is basically mandatory if you hate those ugly octopus adapters. But then I saw the Seasonic Focus GX-850 ATX 3.0 and got torn because Seasonic is like the GOAT of reliability in my head. What's actually interesting is the technical side—these ATX 3.0 units are built to handle massive "power excursions" or spikes that the 40-series cards can throw out. Even if a 4080 usually draws around 320W, it can spike way higher for milliseconds, and older PSUs might trip their protections. I eventually settled on the Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 850W because the efficiency curve was pretty great for mid-range loads. It's been whisper quiet, which was my main goal. The lesson I learned is that while Gold rated is fine, the real difference for silence is in the fan profile and whether it has a "Zero RPM" mode. If you want silence, definitely check if the PSU has a physical toggle for the fan mode on the back. It makes a huge difference when you're just browsing and dont want to hear a tiny jet engine under ur desk... good luck with the build!!
