Hey guys! I’m finally putting together my dream build featuring an RTX 4090 and an i9-14900K, but I’m honestly a bit stressed about picking the right power supply. We all know how much power these two components can draw, especially when the 14900K is boosting or the 4090 hits those heavy transient spikes during intensive 4K gaming.

I’ve been looking at a few 1000W units, but I’m starting to wonder if that’s cutting it too close. I really don't want to risk any random shutdowns or stability issues given how much I’ve invested in these parts. I’m definitely looking for something that is ATX 3.0 compliant so I can use a native 12VHPWR cable and avoid those bulky adapters. I’m also leaning towards an 80 Plus Platinum or even Titanium rating just to keep things as efficient and cool as possible.

I’ve seen some builders swear by 1200W for the extra headroom, while others say a high-quality 1000W is more than enough. Since I’ll be doing a mix of heavy video rendering and long gaming sessions, I need something rock-solid.

For those of you running this specific CPU and GPU combo, which PSU did you go with, and have you run into any power-related issues?

Sooo, I’d highkey recommend the FSP Hydro PTM Pro 1000W ATX 3.0 80 Plus Platinum. Honestly, dont waste extra cash on 1200W. This unit is super efficient and usually around $175—way cheaper than Seasonic. It handles the transient spikes flawlessly with its native 12VHPWR. I’ve been using it for months with zero stability issues during rendering and gaming. Basically saves you $100 lol. 👍

Yo, honestly, dont risk ur $3k build. I had issues with a 1000W unit before and it was sooo annoying dealing with random reboots during renders. Basically, you need safety headroom for peace of mind:

* Get 1300W to buffer those huge 4090 spikes.
* Ensure it's Titanium for better heat management.

I suggest the Seasonic PRIME TX-1300 ATX 3.0 1300W 80 Plus Titanium. Expensive, but way more reliable than cutting it close... gl!

To add to the point above: you might want to consider going way beefier just to be safe. I’m always super cautious because I once had a psu fail on me and it almost fried my whole motherboard... honestly it was a nightmare and I've been paranoid ever since. Since you're doing heavy video rendering and gaming, that 14900K is gonna be sucking power like crazy and you dont want to be right at the limit. I would suggest looking at the be quiet! Dark Power Pro 13 1300W 80 Plus Titanium. It's super reliable and actually runs very quiet even under load. Be careful though, it’s a pretty long unit so make sure your case has enough room for the cables to bend properly without straining the connectors. Quick tip: always check the Cybenetics ratings for noise and efficiency too, sometimes they’re way more detailed than the standard 80 Plus stuff. Better safe than sorry with such an expensive 4090...

honestly... i think youre right to worry. i tried a 1000W unit before and unfortunately had some weird shutdowns during long rendering sessions. so annoying!! id say just go 1200W for the headroom. the MSI MPG A1200G PCIE5 1200W 80 Plus Gold is a great value option that actually handles everything. i mean its not as fancy as platinum but it works and saves u cash. gl!
