Hey everyone! I’m currently putting together a mid-range gaming build featuring an RX 6600 XT, and I’m a bit stuck on picking the right power supply. I know the card isn't super power-hungry, but I want something reliable that won't break the bank or, worse, fry my components. I’m looking for a 600W unit to give myself a little bit of headroom for extra fans and storage drives, but my budget is pretty tight after splurging on the GPU.
I’ve been looking at a few options like the EVGA BR or the Corsair CV series, but I’ve seen some mixed reviews regarding fan noise and long-term durability. Since I’m trying to keep the PSU cost under $60-$70 if possible, I’m wondering if there are any 'hidden gems' that are actually Tier C or higher on the PSU cultist list. Efficiency is a plus, but my main priority is decent build quality and flat cables for easier cable management in a smaller case.
Has anyone here used a specific budget 600W PSU with the 6600 XT that they would actually recommend for a stable daily driver?
Ok so, for a mid-range build with an RX 6600 XT, I honestly think the Cooler Master MWE 600 Bronze V2 230V, 80 Plus Bronze Certified 600W Power Supply is the absolute best value pick. I've been running one for over a year and it's literally silent, plus it's Tier C on the list so it's actually reliable. If ur looking for something with slightly better cables, the MSI MAG A600DN 600W 80 PLUS Bronze Power Supply is also a solid hidden gem that's super affordable right now. Both work great!

Jumping in here... so for a 6600 XT build, you honestly dont need to overspend, but I get wanting that extra headroom for future upgrades. If your looking for something reliable within that $60-$70 range that isnt the one already mentioned, I'd highkey suggest checking out the Corsair CX650 (2023) 650 Watt 80 Plus Bronze ATX Power Supply. It's basically a Tier C staple on the Cultist list and comes with those flat black cables that make cable management way easier in smaller cases.
Another solid choice is the Thermaltake Toughpower GX2 600W 80+ Gold SLI/Crossfire Ready Power Supply. Its actually 80+ Gold which is rare at this price point, and it uses a DC-to-DC topology which is great for voltage stability when ur GPU spikes. Both of these are gonna be way better than the older EVGA BR units which have some questionable internal components imo. Basically, either of these should keep ur rig safe without blowing the budget. hope that helps!
Respectfully, I'd consider another option before you pull the trigger on those. Honestly, I've had a few bad experiences with some of the more common budget brands lately—like, my last build had a popular bronze unit and it literally started making this weird clicking noise after only two months. It was sooo frustrating... unfortunately I think some of those entry-level lines just arent as good as people expect for daily use.
If you want something that actually lasts, I'd suggest a different direction:
- Just go with basically any unit from Seasonic, honestly they're tanky
- Look for the higher-end silent lines from Be Quiet!
- Maybe check out the gold-rated options from EVGA if you find a sale
I know the 6600 XT doesnt need much, but I've been so disappointed with fan noise on cheaper units. Basically, I'd highkey recommend a more premium brand even if it stretches the budget by five bucks. gl with the build!!
Just catching up on this thread and honestly, as someone who builds all my own rigs, picking a PSU is easily the most stressful part of the DIY process lol. Before you pull the trigger, I have a couple quick questions to help narrow it down: 1. Are you planning on doing any overclocking on that 6600 XT, or is this strictly a stock daily driver?
2. What specific case are you using? Some budget cases have weirdly tight clearance where even flat cables can be a pain if the unit is a bit longer than average. Since youre trying to stay under $70, I highly suggest checking out these resources if you havent yet:
* **Cybenetics Database:** This is sooo much better than basic 80 Plus ratings. It shows actual noise levels (Lambda) and efficiency (Eta) which is huge if youre worried about fan noise.
* **Hardware Busters:** They do the most insane deep-dive teardowns. Definately check if they've reviewed a unit before you buy it to see the internal component quality.
* **Cultist List Spreadsheet:** Don't just look at the tier; check the 'Notes' or 'Minor Rails' columns for info on protections. Doing the DIY thing is definitely the way to go, you just gotta do the deep dive on the technical specs first!
Huh interesting. I had no idea. The more you know I guess 🤷
