Im looking to upgrade my setup for Valorant and Apex. Ive been using a basic 24 inch monitor for years but I really want that immersion you get with an ultra-wide. My budget is around 800 bucks and I want to buy something before the holidays.
I checked out the Alienware AW3423DWF because everyone raves about the OLED colors but then I read a few threads saying the curve might actually be annoying for competitive aiming and motion blur can be weird? Kinda confused if I should just stick to a flat 27 inch display instead since I dont want to handicap my rank. Does anyone here actually play high level fps on an ultra-wide or is it a bad idea...
Honestly, stick to a flat screen for Valorant. I tried using the Alienware AW3423DWF 34-inch QD-OLED but unfortunately the aspect ratio just messes with your peripheral aim. It looks gorgeous, sure, but playing competitive shooters on it felt like a chore. Youre way better off grabbing a Zowie XL2566K 24.5-inch 360Hz or the LG 27GP850-B 27-inch 165Hz instead. Dont sacrifice your rank for the immersion, trust me.
Honestly, I tried playing Apex on a LG 34GP950G-B 34 inch UltraGear 144Hz and it was pretty rough. The field of view felt warped, and I struggled to track fast targets near the edges. It just wasnt as smooth as my ASUS ROG Swift PG279QM 27 inch 240Hz. If you care about your rank, check out Battle(non)sense on YouTube for actual motion blur testing. Ultra-wides look cool, but they just dont cut it for competitive play.
TIL! Thanks for sharing
Honestly, stick with a flat monitor. I wasted way too much cash on a Samsung Odyssey G9 49-inch 240Hz setup. It is just not worth it for climbing ranks.
