I'm in the market for a new laptop and want to get the most bang for my buck under $1000. I'll mainly be using it for web browsing, streaming video, light gaming, and productivity tasks like word processing and spreadsheets.
What are the top models and brands I should be looking at in this price range for 2024?

@veryhotssay After my old MacBook Air's screen died, I wanted the same computer type. I'm happy with my choice! This machine has ample memory, processing power and storage. It's still fairly lightweight, though slightly heavier than previous models. The price was also reasonable.

The MacBook Air is the best choice I agree. But if you are looking for a Windows laptop, the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 (2023) Gaming Laptop is another great choice.

Caught this thread a bit late but ngl, I'm kinda disappointed with what's hitting the shelves under a grand lately. Seems like brands are cutting corners on cooling and chassis strength just to cram in a better GPU. Not as good as expected, honestly. You really gotta watch out for those thermal issues if you care about performance. If you're still looking, I'd suggest checking out the detailed stress tests on NotebookCheck or the deep-dive reviews on rtings. They actually measure things like keyboard deck temps and screen color accuracy, which helps if you don't want a machine that feels like a space heater after twenty minutes. Just to be sure we're on the same page... are you planning on taking this thing to coffee shops every day, or will it mostly live on your desk? And what specific games are you thinking of? Light gaming means very different things to different people lol.

If you're a student or primarily use your laptop for productivity, I'd highly recommend the latest MacBook Air.
