honestly im so over my current setup right now its driving me crazy. i finally saved up and bought this gorgeous 1440p 165hz alienware monitor last month thinking it would be a game changer but my current card is just... its struggling so hard. i tried playing helldivers 2 and starfield this weekend and im barely getting 45-50 fps on medium settings which totally defeats the purpose of having a high refresh rate screen in the first place. i keep getting these annoying micro-stutters and everything looks blurry when i turn on dlss performance mode just to make it playable. i feel like i wasted $500 on a display that my pc cant even drive properly and it's making me not even want to play anything anymore.
im just fed up with having to spend twenty minutes in the settings menu every time i launch a new game just to get it to not look like a slide show. i really need to upgrade to something that actually handles 1440p like its supposed to without me having to compromise on every single visual detail. i dont mind spending money if it actually works but i dont want to overpay for some crazy 4090 that i dont even need. i just want a solid card that makes use of the refresh rate i paid for.
here is what im looking for specifically because i dont want to make another mistake and end up in the same spot:
should i just bite the bullet and get a 4070 super or is it worth stretching for the ti super? or am i overlooking an amd card like the 7900 xt that smokes both of them for the same price... i just want my games to look smooth for once... its so frustrating seeing everyone else have these buttery smooth experiences while mine looks like a laggy mess.
@Reply #2 - good point! i actually grabbed the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB GDDR6X recently and im super satisfied. it totally fixed my stuttering issues.
@Reply #1 - good point! Be careful with VRAM limits tho. Maybe check:
man i totally feel your pain on this one. i went through the exact same thing last year after buying a fancy high-res screen and honestly it was a huge letdown at first. i tried going the cheaper route with a mid-range card from the red team because everyone said the value was better but unfortunately i had nothing but issues with the software. it kept crashing during my raids and the ray tracing was just not as good as expected compared to my buddies setup. spent way too much time troubleshooting when i just wanted to game. i ended up returning it and grabbing a higher tier green card instead. it was a bit more cash but the stability was night and day. if youre looking to actually hit those high frame rates without constant stuttering i would definitely suggest just stretching your budget for the better version of the one you're looking at. having that extra memory headroom makes a massive difference for peace of mind so you arent back in the same boat in 12 months.
