Im trying to build a new gaming rig for my kid in time for his birthday next month and im strictly capped at 500 bucks for the whole tower. ive been obsessively reading reddit threads and everyone keeps suggesting the 5600 but then i see others saying the 5500 is basically the same thing if you dont care about pcie 4.0. honestly im just confused if that performance difference is actually noticeable for casual 1080p gaming or if i should just save the extra cash for a better gpu. does anyone have a recommendation for an amd chip that hits that sweet spot for a budget build without breaking the bank?

Honestly, at that 500 dollar limit, every single penny counts toward the graphics card. I have built a few rigs with the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6-Core 12-Thread Processor and it really is the safer bet for longevity. The PCIe 4.0 support matters more than people think when you start looking at modern budget GPUs that only use 8 lanes.

  • The 5500 is technically okay but the halved cache and PCIe 3.0 limit can cause stutters in some newer titles.
  • Youre better off grabbing the 5600 so you dont have to upgrade the CPU again in two years.
  • Spend the savings on a decent SSD like the Crucial P3 Plus 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD to keep loading times fast. Keep it simple and focus on the GPU budget. It works fine for 1080p gaming.
