Honestly if you are looking at the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X and the price is around 300 it is definitely a solid buy for the efficiency alone but you really gotta look at the competition before pulling the trigger. I have been tracking the market and comparing it to the Intel Core i7-14700K and basically here is how it breaks down for me from a cost-effectiveness perspective:

• AMD 9700X: Super low power draw and runs way cooler so you save money on a beefy cooling setup plus the AM5 platform has a way longer life span for future upgrades.
• Intel i7-14700K: Usually costs a bit more and drinks power like crazy but it absolutely crushes productivity tasks and heavy multi-threaded stuff if you do more than just gaming. Tbh if you are mostly gaming then the AMD chip is the smarter play because you wont need to swap your motherboard again in two years like you would with Intel right now. If you see another ten or twenty bucks shaved off that sale price I would just grab it because waiting for a massive drop might take forever and honestly you are already getting a decent deal compared to launch day prices which were way too high for what it is.
