Honestly I am so fed up with my current travel setup because my neck and shoulders are absolutely killing me after just a few hours. I have been hopping between different hotels and airbnbs across Europe for the last month and every single desk is either way too low or just awkward as hell. I am currently in a rental in Prague and the only table is this tiny coffee table thing and I feel like a shrimp trying to get my emails done. I am using a heavy 16 inch macbook and every portable stand I have bought feels like it is gonna snap or just tip over the second I type too hard.
I need something that actually brings the screen up to eye level without weighing ten pounds because I only travel with a carry-on and a backpack. I have got about 150 bucks to spend on this but I am willing to go higher if it means I stop waking up with a headache from all the tension in my back. I am also looking for a keyboard and mouse combo that doesnt feel like a toy but still fits in my bag. I am moving to Budapest in ten days and really want to have a better system by then. What portable accessories are you guys actually using that make a real difference for ergonomics when you are on the road?
Building on the earlier suggestion, I unfortunately had issues with metal stands failing. Try these:
I finally found a setup that works well for my heavy laptop. The main thing is avoiding those flimsy plastic folding stands. They flex way too much and dont handle the torque of a 16 inch machine safely.
