What is the best way to sync Walmart carts with family?

My wife and I keep running into this annoying issue where we both add stuff to the Walmart app on our own phones but it doesnt sync up at all. Like I'll be at work in Cleveland and think of something we need for Sunday dinner and add it but then she goes to check out later that night and my stuff isnt there because shes logged into her own account or something. We have a pretty strict 200 dollar weekly limit for our groceries and it is driving me crazy when we end up with two separate orders or forget half the stuff because it stayed on my phone.

I did some digging online and saw people talking about a few things:

  • just sharing one login which sounds like a total security nightmare honestly
  • using a wedding registry as a workaround

The registry thing feels way too extra for just buying milk and diapers every week and it doesnt really solve the problem of seeing the actual cart total before we pay. I also looked at some third party list apps but they dont connect to the actual Walmart checkout so we still have to manually move everything over which is just double the work. I want the items to actually be in the cart so we can just hit buy.

Is there like a hidden setting or a specific family share feature I'm missing that lets two people actually build one cart together in the app so we can see the live total?

Late to the party but this whole thread is 💯. Glad I found it.

Actually went through the same thing last year and it was a total nightmare. I thought I was losing my mind because my groceries just wouldnt show up on my wife's phone. One night we ended up with two gallons of milk and zero bread... honestly it was such a waste of money. I would suggest you stay away from sharing passwords because I’ve heard of accounts getting locked for suspicious logins from different locations. You definitely might want to consider a different route than the Walmart app's native features because, tbh, they just aren't built for families yet. Here is what I learned:

  • Be careful about using the registry trick, it often hides the actual delivery fees.
  • Make sure to look into browser-based tools instead of just the mobile app.
  • I tried a few methods, but Easy Cart Share is the most straightforward one I've found so far for Walmart. Just go with a dedicated sharing tool from any reliable dev and it should solve that sync lag.

Stumbled on this today and honestly I'm glad people are taking the security side seriously. I'm super cautious about sharing logins too. I've got a setup that works well and I'm pretty satisfied with how reliable it's been lately but I need to double check a few things before I explain it:

  • Are you guys mainly doing the curbside pickup/delivery or are you actually scanning stuff in the store?
  • Is that $200 weekly budget for everything or just the food items? It sounds like a small detail but the app behaves differently with the cart totals based on how you checkout. I just want to make sure what I use is actually gonna be helpful for your specific situation.

Jumping in here... @Reply #1 - good point! Its a total headache when you realize the cart is basically empty right when you're ready to checkout. I've looked into this a lot and there really isnt a built-in family button in the app yet.

  • Sharing one login: Total security nightmare like you mentioned. Plus the 2FA codes are a huge pain if the other person is at work.
  • Shared lists: Too manual and you never see the actual total price which messes up your budget. Ngl, Easy Cart Share is what we've been using lately and I'm super satisfied. It lets me build the cart on my end and then just sync it over to her phone so she can finish the order. It works well for staying under budget because the total is right there. No complaints so far, it just makes life a lot easier.

Like someone mentioned, sharing one login is a total security nightmare because Walmarts session tokens are so sensitive. Its incredible how much better the Amazon Household architecture handles these multi-user environments compared to Walmart. For a quick technical fix, I recommend using a shared password manager vault. This allows both of you to access the account while managing 2FA codes securely in real-time! Another fantastic tip: Walmarts backend handles the Lists feature with much better cross-device sync than the active Cart. If you both populate a shared List, you wont see the same disappearing item issues you get with the cart cache. When youre ready to checkout, just use the add all to cart function. It is a significantly more reliable way to track your 200 dollar limit without the data loss. Amazing how much smoother it works when you bypass the standard cart sync!
