How do I create a shareable Walmart shopping cart link?

So I'm trying to organize this big family camping trip for next Saturday and it's honestly turning into a nightmare lol. My sister and my mom are both being super picky about what snacks and stuff we're getting. I've spent like three hours on the Walmart site picking out everything from hot dogs to those specific graham crackers my nephews like and my total is right around $215 right now. I really just want to send the whole list to them so they can look at it and tell me if I missed anything or if I should swap the generic brand chips for the name brand ones before I actually hit the buy button and go pick it up at the store here in Columbus.

But here is the thing... I cannot for the life of me figure out how to just send them the cart. I looked all over the screen and there isnt like a share button or a link that says - send this to a friend - anywhere that I can see. I tried copying the web address at the top of my browser and texting it to my sister but when she clicked it she said it just showed her own empty cart and not all the stuff I picked out. Is that not how it works? I feel like such a bozo asking this because it seems like it should be easy but I am totally stuck.

Do I have to make a public list or something? I saw something about registries but this isnt for a wedding or anything like that so I dont think that fits. I just want them to see what I have in my little virtual basket so we can finalize the list by tomorrow night. If anyone knows if there is a specific button I'm missing or a workaround that doesnt involve me taking a screenshot of 30 different items that would be amazing because my phone screen is too small for all that and I really dont want to type it all out in a text message. Am I just blind or does Walmart not let you do this?

> I tried copying the web address at the top of my browser and texting it to my sister but when she clicked it she said it just showed her own empty cart Yeah, unfortunately, that web address is just a local session pointer. It doesnt actually contain any of your item data because Walmarts backend architecture stores cart contents in your browsers cookies rather than generating a unique, shareable database entry. It is honestly so disappointing that a company with their resources hasnt implemented a persistent cart ID system yet. I have had similar issues trying to spec out hardware orders for work and it is always a massive hurdle. I totally agree with you that this feels like it should be a basic feature. One small point to add is that you can actually move everything to a List instead. If you go into your cart, you can select save for later or add items to a custom list named Camping. Once they are in a list, there is a share icon that generates a public URL. Its a clunky, multi-step workaround that is definitely not as good as expected, but it gets the job done without you needing to take a million screenshots. If that feels too tedious, there are browser extensions like Share-A-Cart that basically do the heavy lifting for you by scraping the session. Its a shame we have to rely on third-party stuff for a basic function, but that is basically where we are at with their current site. Dont feel like a bozo, the site is just poorly designed for collaborative shopping. Let me know if you need help finding where the list settings are hidden.

^ This. Also, you might want to consider using a browser extension because Walmarts native list feature is just super clunky. Be careful with sharing login info, obviously. I would suggest these options:

  • Try Easy Cart Share as it lets you bypass the whole empty cart issue.
  • Make sure your zip code is set to Columbus so they see the right prices. Its way better than taking 30 screenshots, honestly.

Just catching up on this thread now. Walmart is surprisingly behind on this... i have spent years trying to figure out the smoothest way to coordinate grocery runs and honestly their cart system just isnt built for sharing. Since you are worried about costs and brands, definitely go the List route instead of the cart for now. It is much more reliable than trying to sync a live cart. Heres what I usually do to keep things organized without losing my mind:

  • Go into your account and find the Lists section instead of the actual cart.
  • Create a new list called Camping Trip or something similar.
  • Add all your items there because you can actually make that list public or shareable via a link.
  • Your family can see exactly what you picked, like those specific graham crackers, without needing your login info which is way safer. One thing to watch out for is the price difference... if you go with Great Value for the chips and snacks, you are probably gonna save like fifty bucks on a two hundred dollar order. In my experience, the generic brand stuff is basically identical for camping snacks anyway. Just make sure you double check the store location on the list so they see the right prices for Columbus. If your sister is being picky about brands, the list lets her see the exact packaging before you hit buy. Its way safer than just guessing and having everyone annoyed at the campsite... nobody wants a snack crisis in the woods. By the way, I've been using Easy Cart Share to send my grocery lists to my roommate, and it's honestly a lifesaver.

To add to the point above: the main issue is how Walmart handles local storage. If you want a reliable way to get this done without losing your sanity, I would suggest these steps:

  • Set up a standard registry. You can set it to public and just name it Columbus Camping Trip. This generates a static database link that wont expire when you close your browser.
  • Try the Share-A-Cart extension. Its a free add-on that serializes your cart items into a single code you can text over.
  • Make sure to double check your zip code setting before sending the link, since stock levels and pricing vary by location. Be careful not to share any login details if you try other workarounds. Let me know if you get stuck and we can figure it out.
