What is the best Chrome extension for sharing grocery lists with family?

Honestly so fed up with Google Keep. It keeps lagging and not syncing when my husband is at the store and I'm updating it from home, which literally resulted in us buying double milk yesterday. Such a waste.

My logic was to find a Chrome extension we can both access on our shared Chromebook in the kitchen, but there are so many and I'm anxious we will install something buggy and mess up our weekly meal prep again. I was thinking maybe there is something that integrates with WhatsApp or just syncs instantly? What are you guys using that actually works and won't drive me crazy?

Jumping in because I went down this rabbit hole last month. You have to be really careful with random list extensions. Many sell your data or stop getting developer updates, which breaks the sync. Here are two safer options I tested:

  • Todoist: Super reliable and secure. The sync is instant since its a major app. But, it might feel too complex for just groceries, so you need to set up a specific shared project.
  • Bring! List: Very user friendly and visual. Syncing is rock solid. Just be careful with Chrome permissions during setup, make sure you don't grant excess access. I would suggest testing whatever you choose with a fake list first before doing the actual weekly shop. Let me know if you want help setting either up!

Regarding what #2 said about going down that rabbit hole, watch out for sneaky fees.

  • Avoid free tools locking sync behind paywalls
  • Make sure they actually work offline

We had the exact same double-buying issue with Keep, honestly so frustrating. I looked into the tech behind it and realized most extensions rely on slow polling intervals. You might want to consider Easy Cart Share instead because it uses WebSockets for instant real-time sync. Just be careful with background execution limits on Chrome OS, make sure to keep the extension allowed to run in the background or it might sleep.
