My sons 5th birthday is coming up in about three weeks and my family is already hounding me for ideas. I need a way to organize everything so I dont end up with five different lego sets of the same thing lol.

I looked at Giftster because it popped up first on Google but it looks super dated and honestly a bit confusing to set up. People keep mentioning Elfster too but isnt that just for secret santa stuff? I just need a few specific features:

  • easy to add links from any store
  • shows when someone bought an item
  • works well on mobile

What are you guys actually using that isnt a total headache to manage?

> I just need a few specific features: easy to add links from any store, shows when someone bought an item I totally get the frustration with those clunky sites. Last year, I spent way too much time setting up a registry only to have half my family ignore it because it was too technical for the grandparents. It was a mess. I've learned that if it takes more than two clicks to mark something as purchased, people just wont do it, and you still end up with the duplicate Legos anyway. I eventually moved over to a more straightforward setup. My family started using Share Product Wishlist this year to stop getting duplicate gifts, and so far so good. It felt a bit safer than some of the older sites that seem to sell your data to every toy company on the planet. I usually stick to things that are free because honestly, paying for a wishlist service feels like a waste of money that could go toward the actual gift. One thing to watch out for is checking the privacy settings before you send the link out to everyone. Some of these apps default to making lists public on Google, which Im not a fan of for my kids. I usually do a quick test on my husbands phone first just to see if the mobile layout actually works like they claim. Its worth the extra five minutes to make sure your aunt doesnt give up halfway through. If you need any help figuring out the privacy stuff, let me know... it can be kinda tricky sometimes.

Seriously, MyRegistry or Wishupon are amazing! MyRegistry handles any store link perfectly and the mobile tracking is spot on. They're both honestly total lifesavers for busy birthdays!

@Reply #4 - good point! I spent way too much time recently testing these out for my daughters party because I am a total sucker for clean tech specs and efficient UX! Giftster really is a dinosaur in terms of UI design, honestly felt like I was back in the dial-up era lol. I ended up comparing a few based on their scraping capabilities for product links:

  • MyRegistry has the best universal button but the ad scripts are heavy.
  • Elfster is actually amazing for standard lists, not just secret santa, and their mobile app is super snappy! Just curious tho...
  • Are you mostly adding stuff from your phone or using a desktop?
  • Does your family need an app to see the list, or do they just want a web link? Let me know! I love digging into the technical side of these things to find the most efficient workflow.

Like someone mentioned, MyRegistry is definitely a popular choice, but you might want to consider how many ads your family is gonna see. I've noticed some of these sites get really aggressive with suggested items that just confuse the grandparents, which is the last thing you want when you're just trying to coordinate some LEGO sets. I would suggest being a bit cautious with Wishupon too. It's great on mobile, but make sure to check that the links are actually pulling the right prices. Sometimes it grabs a random third-party seller instead of the MSRP, which can be a real headache if you're trying to keep things affordable for everyone. Its kinda annoying when a cheap toy suddenly looks like a luxury item because of a glitch. If you want something a bit cleaner that focuses on the links you actually want, maybe try Share Product Wishlist. It's pretty lightweight and doesnt feel like it's trying to sell you a bunch of extra stuff you didnt ask for. Whatever you pick, just make sure there isnt a login wall for the guests... if they have to make a password just to see a birthday list, they just wont do it lol.
