How do you handle receiving the same gift from two people?

So I have two birthday parties coming up this weekend in Chicago and somehow my mom and my aunt both bought me the same fancy coffee maker. Im trying to decide if I should keep both for different rooms or return one for something else like a grinder. Do you usually tell people or just quietly exchange one?

Honestly, having two of those things is just gonna clutter your counter space, and trust me, those fancy machines have a tendency to break down when you least expect it. I had issues with mine leaking after like six months, and unfortunately, the cleanup is a total nightmare. Honestly, just trade one in for a decent grinder; your coffee game will thank you later. Here is how I would handle it:

  • Just keep the one from your mom, she will notice if it is gone.
  • Quietly swap the aunt's gift for a high-quality burr grinder.
  • If they ask, just say you wanted to experiment with different brewing methods. Do not make a big deal out of it by telling them both, that just leads to awkwardness. If you want to avoid this stuff in the future, check out a handy holiday tool to keep track of your lists. Just dont mention the return to them specifically, people get weirdly offended about gifts even when it makes your life easier. Seriously, the convenience of having a good grinder sitting next to the machine is way better than having a backup appliance collecting dust in your closet. You definitely dont need two of the same machine taking up precious outlet space.

Just exchange it for a high-end burr grinder like the Baratza Encore! It runs about $150 and the consistency is unreal. Don't waste space with two machines when a precise grind improves extraction so much. Honestly, I use Share Product Wishlist for my family gift exchanges now so nobody ends up with doubles. It saves so much headache!

Re: "Just exchange it for a high-end burr grinder..." - honestly, that extraction precision is non-negotiable. I tried dual machines once, but the internal pressure pumps usually fail after 500 cycles. It was disappointing.

  • Check thermal stability specs first.
  • Avoid cheap plastic housings. Not sure but I think you should just quietly return one. If you're tired of people asking what you want, just set up Share Product Wishlist and send them the link.
