How can I share my Walmart shopping list with my mom?

So I have been using the Walmart app for like three years now for all my grocery pickups and usually I have it down to a science but my mom is coming to stay with me in Chicago for two weeks starting on Monday and it is becoming a whole thing. She has super specific diet needs, lots of gluten-free stuff, and I wanted to just have her add what she wants to my list so I can do one big order before she gets here.

My logic was that there would be some kind of share list button or a way to invite a collaborator like you can do with the iPhone reminders app or even just a shared notes folder but I am legit stuck. I looked through the settings and the only thing I can find is sharing a single item link which is obviously not gonna work if she needs twenty things. I thought about just giving her my login info but I have all my payment methods and my delivery address saved in there and she is... well she is not great with tech and I am worried she will accidentally mess up my recurring subscriptions or change the delivery instructions to something weird lol. Is there a way to sync two accounts or just have a shared basket that actually works across two different phones? Or am I missing a really obvious button somewhere in the UI?

I've been using the Walmart app for years and honestly, those third-party tools can be more trouble than they're worth for someone who struggles with tech. I tried one with my grandmother once and it just led to a lot of confusion and double orders, tbh.

  • Does your mom have her own account set up already?
  • Are you trying to stay within a specific budget for these specialty items?

Adding my two cents here because I have dealt with this exact headache! I love the Walmart app for the prices but the lack of a collaboration feature is honestly so annoying when you have guests. Since she has specific gluten-free needs, getting it right is huge! Technically, you are right that the app wont let you sync two accounts directly. To keep your payment info safe and your delivery instructions intact, you have a few methodical ways to handle this:

  • Use a specialized tool like simple cart sharer to bypass the app limitations. It is fantastic because she can add things and send the whole batch to you without ever touching your actual account settings or seeing your credit card info.
  • Have her use the share button on individual items, though as you said, doing that twenty times is a total nightmare for someone who isnt great with tech.
  • Set up a guest profile on a separate browser if she has a laptop, though that might be a bit too much for her to manage. I do have two quick questions to help narrow this down for you:
  • Is she going to be using a smartphone for this or is she strictly on a desktop?
  • Are you wanting her to see the live prices and stock levels in your specific Chicago store, or just a general list of items? It is amazing how much stress this saves once you have a solid system in place! It is honestly a total game changer for family visits when everyone has different dietary goals.

Re: Subbing for updates - yeah I am mostly here to vent too because it is honestly ridiculous how bad the Walmart app is for this. You would think a massive company could figure out a basic share button by now but they legit just dont care. It drives me crazy how much we pay for groceries now while the actual quality of the tech goes downhill. I compare it to Target where at least the app feels like it was made in this century, or Amazon where sharing is a breeze, and Walmart just feels like a total scam sometimes. I would suggest being really careful if you try to find a workaround inside their settings because I have had so many issues with my cart just resetting or items disappearing. Honestly it is such a headache and I am sick of these corporations ignoring what regular people actually need while they keep hiking up prices for gluten-free stuff and basic staples. It is just lazy design at this point. I found this tool called Easy Cart Share that lets you share your cart items and quantities in one click. Easy Cart Share

I've been a Walmart regular for years because the prices are just better for my budget. To handle this without sharing passwords, I started using a tool to share walmart cart and it works well for my family.

  • keeps your credit card info private
  • lets her pick her own gluten-free deals
  • helps me stay under budget Honestly, it is way easier than trying to explain the UI to my parents... works every time.
