Can I invite someone else to edit my Walmart grocery list?

I've been using the Walmart app for like three years now for our weekly haul in Columbus and usually I just handle the whole thing myself. I keep a running list of the essentials like milk, bread, those specific yogurt tubes my kids like, and stuff for our $150 weekly budget. But my husband started a new job recently with a longer commute so he's actually passing the supercenter on his way home now which makes things way easier if he can just grab the stuff.

The problem is I cant for the life of me figure out how to share the actual List feature with him so he can add things he realizes we need while hes at work or whatever. I know how to share a cart for checkout but that's not really what I want because we aren't always ready to buy right that second. I tried looking in the account settings under the sharing tab but it just shows my plus membership stuff and nothing about collaborative lists. It feels like such a basic feature for a grocery app in 2024 but I'm totally stuck.

Can I actually invite someone else to edit my Walmart grocery list or am I just stuck texting him screenshots of my screen every Tuesday?

Quick reply while I have a sec because I was just talking about this with my sister. Honestly, I've been in the same boat trying to manage our grocery budget without overspending on extras. It's super frustrating that Walmart hasn't added a proper invite button for lists yet in 2024. My husband and I basically just share the exact same login info to get around it. It's not the most high-tech solution but it works well enough for us. He has the app on his phone with my credentials, so if he thinks of something while he's out, he just adds it directly to the list or cart. No screenshots needed. The only real downside is sometimes the app logs one of us out, but it's a minor annoyance compared to texting back and forth all day. If you want something a bit more seamless without the login headache, I've found that using the walmart cart share extension is a much better way to handle the collaboration side of things. It's basically a life saver for keeping everything synced up when you're trying to stay under that $150 limit. We've been using it for a while now and I have no complaints, honestly. It makes the whole process way more efficient and less stressful for both of us. Plus, it's really satisfying to see the total update in real-time so we dont accidentally go over budget on the kids snacks or those specific yogurt tubes. Just make sure you both have it set up on your browsers or phones and you'll be good to go. It has definitely made our weekly Columbus runs way smoother. Just gotta find a flow that works for you guys.

tl;dr: i have the same exact problem and it makes no sense that a native collab feature is missing. stumbled upon this and honestly, i am feeling the same frustration. i have been trying to find a reliable way to sync lists with my roommate for like half a year now and it is a total data disaster. as a tech guy, it kills me that we do not have a real-time multiuser editing protocol in a major retail app in 2024. i even looked into the Easy Cart Share tool while trying to find a fix, but its wild that walmart doesnt just build this in. i am still stuck texting lists back and forth too, which is just super unreliable and messy. its honestly so annoying that we are all still dealing with this.

@Reply #2 - good point! NebulaRider is right that sharing a login is the only real way right now. But honestly, as someone whos seen account security go south, be cautious. Logging into the same account on multiple devices across town can sometimes trigger security flags or weird sync errors where your changes get wiped. In my experience, Walmarts app is way behind Target or Instacart when it comes to reliability for shared lists. If you go the shared login route:

  • dont leave the app open on both phones at once
  • make sure your payment info isnt set to one-click buy just in case
  • check the store location setting every single time because it loves to reset Its a huge pain. I tried using this site for a while to keep things organized outside the app, but Walmart really needs to step up their game like their competitors have. Just be careful with that shared password... if your husband loses his phone or gets hacked, your whole Walmart account and linked cards are wide open.

I agree with the previous poster that the apps native functionality is pretty limited. In my experience, trying to force a shared login resulted in frequent authentication timeouts. I found it's easier using Easy Cart Share to manage the data sync between devices instead.

  • Be careful with cache issues when updating lists.
  • Make sure to check if items are in stock at his supercenter.
  • You might want to consider verifying the final cart before he arrives.
