Is there actually a free chrome extension that lets you share a grocery list with someone else because I cannot find anything that works?

I am so confused right now honestly lol. My husband and I are trying to save money for our first house here in Chicago and our grocery bill is just insane lately because we keep buying the same stuff twice or forgetting things we actually need. I tried looking in the chrome web store thingy but everything I see looks like its for work or coding or something way too complicated for me. I just want a simple list where I can type things like milk or bread on my computer while I am at work and then he can see it on his side.

Does that even exist? Sorry if this is a really basic question I just dont know how any of this tech stuff works half the time. Every time I think I found one it asks for a monthly subscription or its just a notepad that stays on my computer only. I really need it to be free since we are on such a tight budget right now and I really dont want to pay five dollars a month just to write down a list of vegetables. Do I need to install something special or is there a trick to this? I spent like an hour clicking around and I am just getting more annoyed...

agree with @Reply #1, most free extensions are just bait for subscriptions. Ive tried many over the years and they usually fail at syncing. A couple quick questions:

  • does your husband need to access the list on a phone at the store, or just a PC?
  • are you set on a Chrome extension, or would a shared web-based list work? Most simple extensions dont handle mobile syncing very well.

I totally get the frustration with grocery prices here in Chicago lately, its getting pretty ridiculous. My partner and I went through the exact same thing when we were tightening our belts for a big move last year. We kept ending up with three cartons of eggs and zero milk because we just werent synced up. I spent a whole afternoon looking for a chrome extension that didnt feel like a project management tool for a software company... honestly most of them were just way too much for what I needed. It felt like everything was either for coders or had a hidden price tag. Eventually I found a setup that actually worked for us without costing a dime. It wasnt even a fancy extension at first, just a simple shared list tool that happened to have a chrome plugin. I can basically type everything out on my laptop during my lunch break and it just shows up on his side instantly. The best part was not having to deal with those annoying premium popups every five minutes. It definitely takes the stress out of the grocery run when you can see things being crossed off in real time while one of us is at the store. We saved a decent chunk of change just by not double-buying expensive stuff we already had in the pantry. Its nothing fancy but it really gets the job done for a household budget. Just look for something that emphasizes real-time sync rather than all those productivity bells and whistles. It really makes a huge difference when youre trying to stay on track.

Unfortunately, finding a reliable free tool for this is much harder than it should be. I had issues with several extensions that were either too buggy or hid sharing features behind a paywall.

  • Try using this Chrome extension which handles basic syncing without a subscription.
  • Make sure you both use the same login to keep the sync active. Its not perfect, but it beats paying a monthly fee just to buy bread.

Great info, saved!
