Hey everyone! I'm planning to upgrade to the new 9070 XT when it releases and want to make sure I have adequate power supply coverage. I'm currently running a 650W PSU with my older GPU setup. Should I be looking at 750W, 850W, or do I need to go even higher for the 9070 XT? Also wondering about specific brand recommendations - are there particular models that pair well with high-end AMD cards? My system has a Ryzen 7 processor and standard components. Thanks for any advice on reliable PSU options!
For ITX builds, the Corsair SF850 is your best bet - it's SFX format with Platinum efficiency. You get options for both 12V-2x6 or up to 3x PCIe 8-pin connectors depending on which 9070 XT variant you choose.
The good news is AMD stuck with 8-pin connectors for most cards, so you don't have to worry about the new 12VHPWR cables like with Nvidia.
Honestly, while everyone is talking about wattage, as a DIYer you really need to look at the transient response and ATX 3.1 compliance if you want this build to last. Moving from a 650W unit to a higher tier isnt just about the number on the box, it is about handling those millisecond power spikes that high-end silicon like the 9070 XT throws at the 12V rail.
AMD says 750W for the 9070 XT, which is way more reasonable than Nvidia's power-hungry cards. The CX750M with Bronze rating will do the job just fine if you want to save some cash - it has 4x PCIe 8-pin connectors, though you'd need an optional cable for 12V-2x6.
Honestly, if you're upgrading from something like a 7900 XTX, you probably don't need a new PSU since the power requirements match.
Did this last week, worked perfectly
Lol I was literally about to post the same thing. Glad someone else brought it up.
