What is the absolute cheapest B650 motherboard I can buy for a Ryzen 7000 chip that wont actually blow up or something? I am honestly so lost looking at all these different models and brands and everything is so expensive for some reason. I thought building a PC was supposed to be fun but I am just stressed out because I dont know what any of these technical specs even mean. Like what is a VRM or a power phase and why are there so many different ports on the back??

I saved up about $150 for the motherboard but even that feels like a lot for just a piece of plastic honestly. I am in Ohio so I can go to Micro Center if they have a deal but their website just makes me more confused. I already bought the Ryzen 7600 chip because someone told me it was good but now I am stuck. I just want to play some Minecraft and maybe try newer games like Cyberpunk but I dont need all the fancy lights or any of that extra stuff people talk about. Sorry if this is a dumb question but is there any specific board that is just solid and doesnt cost a fortune? I need to get this thing built by next weekend for a birthday gift to myself but I am just staring at my parts list crying lol...

Regarding what #1 said about prices being depressing, I actually think there are some amazing gems around $150! That ASRock is okay, but spending a tiny bit more gets you way better longevity.

  • VRMs are like a power kitchen that feeds your CPU stable electricity.
  • Go for the Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX ATX AM5 instead!
  • It has way better power phases and heatsinks so things stay cool and wont crash. Youre gonna love that 7600!

Honestly, motherboard prices right now are pretty depressing. I remember when a solid budget board was eighty bucks, but unfortunately everything is marked up like crazy these days. If youre near a Micro Center in Ohio, go check if they have the ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 Micro ATX AM5 in stock. I had issues with some cheap Gigabyte boards lately because the coil whine was unbearable, but this ASRock one is a beast for the price. It doesnt have the fancy lights, but the VRMs, those power parts you mentioned, are actually better than some boards that cost fifty dollars more. Another option is the MSI PRO B650M-P Micro ATX DDR5, but its not as good as expected for heavier loads. Just grab the ASRock and stop stressing. Its frustrating how expensive budget builds have become, ngl.
