Hey everyone! I’m finally making the jump to the AM5 platform for a new gaming build, likely pairing it with a Ryzen 5 7600X. I’ve been looking at B650 motherboards, but the price range is honestly a bit overwhelming. Some "budget" options start around $130, while others push well past $250, and I’m struggling to figure out where the actual sweet spot is for price-to-performance.

I want something reliable that won't overheat if I eventually upgrade to a more power-hungry chip down the line. My main priorities are solid VRMs, at least two M.2 slots for my NVMe drives, and integrated Wi-Fi since I can't run an ethernet cable to my desk right now. I don't really care about PCIe 5.0 support or flashy RGB lighting; I just want a board that is stable and has decent boot times, as I've heard some early AM5 boards had issues with slow POSTing.

I’ve been eyeing the ASRock B650M Pro RS WiFi and the Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX, but I’m worried I might be missing a better deal elsewhere. My goal is to stay under $160 if possible. Has anyone had particularly good (or bad) experiences with these specific models? Which B650 board do you think offers the absolute best value for a gaming-focused build right now?

I've had great luck with the ASRock B650M Pro RS WiFi for $140. Just be careful—update your BIOS immediately to fix those slow POSTing issues... better safe than sorry!

Sooo stoked for your AM5 build!! For your situation, I would suggest looking at the MSI PRO B650-S WIFI as a serious contender. Its actually a fantastic ATX alternative to the ASRock B650M Pro RS WiFi and usually sits right around $150. Honestly, the VRMs are beefy enough that you wont have to worry about overheating even if you drop a Ryzen 9 in there later.

I’m always a bit cautious about those boot times tho... early AM5 was a mess!! To fix it, you basically gotta enable 'Memory Context Restore' in the BIOS. But be careful!! Sometimes it makes the system a bit unstable if the RAM training isnt perfect. Id say update your BIOS to the latest version first thing, it literally solves like 90% of those issues now.

TL;DR: Go with MSI PRO B650-S WIFI for the best ATX value and solid VRMs under $160. Good luck!!
