honestly fed up with my current board, it keeps crashing during renders and i have a deadline this friday. ive got 600 bucks to spend on a replacement that can actually handle overclocking this beastly 14900k without thermal issues. what board should i get that wont let me down?

Those crashes are stressful, so definitely be careful with your power limits. I would suggest the ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Dark Hero ATX since the VRMs handle heavy renders safely. Quick tips:

  • Make sure to update the bios immediately for the latest stability patches
  • Check your cooling mount twice before overclocking Reach out if you need help and dont worry too much about the deadline.

Saw this a bit late but unfortunately, I've had issues with those super expensive boards lately. Its honestly a letdown when you spend 600 bucks and it still fails during heavy renders. I went through two units before realizing you dont need to max your budget for stability.

  • MSI MPG Z790 Carbon WiFi II ATX is way better value and stays cool.
  • Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE X WIFI7 handles my 14900K just fine for much less cash.
