im trying to build my first pc for editing all the footage from my japan trip and im so lost. i have like $1500 for the whole thing and i heard the gpu is the most important part for 4k but then someone told me the processor matters more?? i dont even know what a gpu actually does lol.

i keep seeing stuff about vram and like 3060 vs 4070 but the numbers are just confusing me. i just want my gopro 4k clips to not lag like crazy when i try to cut them together. is there one thats like the gold standard for this year that wont break my bank? sorry if this is a total noob question...

Ive been very satisfied with my current hardware for 4K editing. It works well and I havent had any reliability issues.

  • Prioritize NVIDIA Studio Drivers over the standard gaming ones to ensure system stability.
  • The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB GDDR6 is a safe choice that provides enough VRAM for high-resolution timelines. I have no complaints about this setup for a $1500 budget.

Like someone mentioned, the 4070 is fantastic but might be overkill for a $1500 total build. I once spent way too much on a GPU and couldn't afford a good monitor, total fail! Ngl, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6 is still a beast for budget 4K editing because of that VRAM. Real quick, what software are you using? DaVinci and Premiere handle hardware totally differently!

I would suggest being careful with VRAM. You might want:

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 12GB GDDR6X Make sure you dont overspend on the GPU alone tho.
