Whats actually the best GPU for 1440p gaming under $500 right now? Ive been looking at benchmarks all week and Im just getting more confused. Saw a lot of people recommending the RX 7800 XT since it has more VRAM, but then other forums say the RTX 4070 is better for DLSS and ray tracing, though it costs a bit more. Im trying to upgrade my old GTX 1080 before Monster Hunter Wilds drops next month and my budget is strictly 500 bucks max in the US. Which one should I actually buy?

@Reply #1 - good point! Adding my two cents about memory bus widths since that tripped me up before. When I upgraded my rig last year, I had to watch out for bandwidth bottlenecks at high resolutions.

  • Check your power supply connectors first, some of these modern cards draw serious wattage.
  • Look closely at case clearance because length varies wildly. If you want a solid alternative, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB is still a beast if you find a clearance one.

In my experience, sticking strictly to a 500 dollar limit means looking closely at raw value rather than marketing hype. Since you need something reliable for upcoming demanding titles, grab the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB.

  • It routinely hits under 500 on sale.
  • The 16GB VRAM handles high resolutions easily.
  • Ray tracing is weaker, but rasterization performance is phenomenal for the price. Definitely check local microcenter deals if you have one nearby.
