Ive been building my own rigs for like a decade now but honestly im just totally fed up with my current 12th gen setup. Everything is stuttering during 4k sessions in Cyberpunk and its driving me insane. Im in the UK and ready to drop about 600 quid on a new chip before the end of the month since i cant deal with these frame drops anymore. Is it even worth jumping to the 14900k right now or is that just a total waste of money with the recent stability drama? I just want something that wont give me a headache while gaming... what are you guys actually running for high-end builds lately?
To add to the point above: the stability concerns are no joke right now, so if you want a headache-free experience, you really need to be careful. Honestly, if you want 4k performance without the drama, have you looked at your GPU usage? Stuttering in Cyberpunk at 4k is usually a VRAM or bandwidth bottleneck rather than just the CPU, even with a 12th gen chip. TL;DR: Before you drop 600 quid on a new platform, what GPU are you using? If you are set on upgrading, the Intel Core i9-14900K 24-core 6.0GHz is fantastic when it runs, but you have to be ready to mess with BIOS settings. Are you cooling with something like the Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX XT 360mm? You absolutely need top-tier cooling for these chips. Let me know what your current card is!
Honestly, skip the 14th gen for now given the microcode issues. It is way too risky. I would suggest picking up an Intel Core i7-14700K 20-core 5.6GHz if you really need to stick with Intel, but honestly you might want to consider the platform longevity. Make sure you update your BIOS immediately if you go that route. It is a headache, but it keeps things stable for my 4k setup.
